The question is, had the officer not pulled her over...would he have known she was breaking the law?

Because common sense has no place in law enforcement.

We know that otherwise cops wouldn't go around choking the shite out of people selling lose cigarettes.

She likely didn't signal, but OP is leaving stuff out of the story I'd imagine.

That ticket will likely get thrown out when she shows her license at the court date. She'll live.

She'll still get hit with court costs though.

I was really looking forward to the debate of did she or didnt she break the law if he hadnt pulled her over, so lets assume she was black and thats why he pulled her over.

Well therin lies another question, why was she pulled over in the first place? No traffic ticket was written.

Honest truth, my wife's ride has a spare/valet key, and so I just took her old license and mine and punched holes through the corner and attached them to its keyring.

This way, when we need to leave to do sh!t on the weekends, we just grab a debit card and the keys and we're good to go.

Sounds like this would prove an excellent method for you moving forward. BTW-if your GF gave the cop any BS at all, you better believe he runs a beat in the general area often and he'll remember her. More than likely he'll be back to see if she does it again.

GF goes out this morning to move her car one block and she gets pulled over by NOPD. Cop asks if she has her DL, which she doesn't because she literally just walked out in her pj's to move her car, but she has all other legal documents (insurance and registration) with her address clearly on them.

Your gf didn't tell you? You're the source of information here, why are you asking us?
