True. But you always hear the term "Southern hospitality." I've never heard a parallel "Northern hospitality" phrase.

You must be next in line for princess of England.

Get off the bean bag chair, put down the cheetos, and walk out of your moms basement.

No...they don't

Have you ever been north? When you hold a door open for a woman, she assumes that you don't think she's capable of opening it for herself. She assumes that you are a misogynist pig and that you assume she is a helpless little girl.

Men appreciate being called "sir", but women HATE being called "ma'am". Up there, "yes, ma'am" is a sarcastic insult meaning "I hope you die, you old bitch!" or so I have to assume based on the reactions I get when I say that.

"Please" means "Hurry up and do what I told you, NOW!!!!"
"Excuse me" means "Get out of my way before I rape your face!!!"

Much of what we use as manners up there is only used as bitter sarcasm.

It's just a different culture up there.

I've spent a good bit of time in NY at our office there, and the people couldn't have been nicer in the months I've spent.

I've never had an issue with holding a door open for anyone and 99% of the time received a thank you.

The reactions sure were consistent from Jersey to NYC to Pittsburgh to Ohio to Chicago. I found the people from Pittsburgh and Chicago to be the most hospitable. NYC and Jersey people were literally the worst human beings on the planet.

People on the West Coast were much less hostile, just ambivalent. San Diego and Portland people were nice and cool all the time. LA people were a mixed bag, but mostly alright. People from Salt Lake City are so nice, hospitable, courteous, and well mannered that it kinda creeps you out and makes you wonder if someone slipped something into your drink, but once you realize that they're just genuinely nice people, they're the kindest people you'll ever meet. Texas people share a lot of their mannerisms with Southerners, but I find that sometimes their hospitality is more of a front, but still tons of great people.

I haven't spent much time in New England or the Great Plains in order to generalize them.

I grew up a Yankee until 20... Moved to Louisiana until like '96 and moved back up north to be with family....MISTAKE... The south has much nicer people and I don't really care if a Flag flies over some building or not.... I consider myself a person from the south and always will............. I can get along with any race, but just don't mess with me.. Then you are what I call a good for nothing loser....

BTW in the last 10 years this country has gone to shite anyway as far as being spoiled and have ALOT more important issues than some flag..............

When I say the South deserves a little crap for what it did in regards to being against civil rights and de-segregation, I mean those stances saying that we were behind the times and a bit racist are deserved. I'm not saying people of our generation deserve the blame. You make that comment about the South and I won't defend it. But if you say we are more racist now than other places, I'll laugh at you. Sure we've got some outspoken rednecks, but those type of people exist everywhere, not just in the South.

They like me, southerners love me. Blacks love me. Northerners love me (they assume I'm from Ohio or Pennsylvania unless I say otherwise). They just don't respond the same way to manners as do southerners. It's a different culture with different cultural expectations, different values, different slang terms, and varied points of emphasis.

Mississippi is a complete shite hole, even worse than West Virginia.

At least WV has mountains and nice scenery.

Sure they do but using them is more prevalent in the South. When I was a real estate agent I dealt with soldiers from all over the USA and the majority of them would always mention how people in the South were more friendly and courteous.
