once in a while I'll chime in...for example, I was at Sams Club checking out,
just the other day, and the cashier was talking to a co-worker about it not being fair, [ it was about being paid fairly ]

and I'm chimed in with...you're not doing yourself any favors , the world is not fair....

his co-worker agreed with me, but the point was, do you engage if you have a contributing thought or a contrary thought?

over the years I've chimed in, but cannot recall the time prior to this last one, so it's not real often

any others out there? anything recent ?

I say hello, how you doing, etc...nothing but small talk. Not really interested in getting into a convo about their pay or life story.

Nothing more than a "hey" or "how's it going"

I won't join in their conversation or anything like that because I don't want to be there any longer than I need to.

No, I just say "hello" I feel like conversation could slow the line.

Kind of flies in the face of your original statement.

If I know the cashier or someone I see regularly I'll say hello, but as soon as he/she hit the total button, I wind it up and keep the line moving.

I don't know if I'd chime in on a really touchy, substantive topic, but yes I talk to them, and call them by name when I thank them on the way out. They're human, too.

don't you just love them folks that stop at the top of the escalator and look around or dig in their purse, as if they were the only one there ?

Yes, I try to be social with all the people I come into contact with.

Some have boring jobs, some seem to like to chit chat. If they don't like it I don't go on and on. But if they do, and many do; I continue to make small talk.

You only go around once.

Our HEB asks how your day is going every time so I stick to "Hello" "Great, you? "Thank you have a good day" and move on down the line.

I talk to cashiers all the time. I shop at Costco, so they are mostly pretty friendly.
