this is a timely thread...and I seem to be in the majority when I make very good $$ but am completely unsatisfied.
I am looking at taking a $15k pay cut just to move back to the industry segment that I enjoy being a part of. Granted the earning potential of the new job would surpass the $15K eventually but its still a hit.
Offer Letter from new company expected to today from one of their VP's.
I was thinking about something like this yesterday. I haven't been looking for a new job, but I was thinking about a guy that I went to grad school with. He's a department head at a university, but makes about 20k less than me. I'm pretty sure I'd trade jobs with him if I could (would have to wait a few years).

Lets quantify "pays well". We all know that is a relative term...
pays well: (+) $75k ?
pays very well: (+) 95k ?
pays well: (+) $75k ?
pays very well: (+) 95k ?

Left a job working for the state to go into the brokerage business. Best decision I could have made.

I hate my current job, and am miserable every day. Usually more frustrated and pissed off than miserable. I take it home with me as well. My wife hates it too.
That being said, it's stable and pays well. I just gotta put up with it long enough to die one day.
Absolutely . When I come up with my TigerDroppings suicide pact thread, I'll be expecting to hear from you bro.

Those are not bad levels.
I'd probably change the 95 to 100 just for shits though

I can't handle them? What will they make me do? Will my head explode? Will I off myself after I realize that my life is simply pathetic? Come on Mike...name the place. My treat.

It would fall under your description of "pays well" but fall short of your description of "pays very well".

Well, if I could collect a paycheck without having to go to work I would.
But I guess all things considered I like it well enough.

I just went through this same thing. I really liked the people I worked for and with, but the job didn't interest me at all. Ended up making the decision to leave.

After reading the rest of the thread apparently my job pays very well.
I do like my job when we are busy. It's challenging and I have the freedom to do the things necessary to get the job done. When we are slow, like we are now, everybody questions everything. I'm told to do things that end up costing us more money and then get blamed for the increased expenses even though I told them it would happen from the beginning. Everybody has to be important during the slow times then those same people don't even show up when it's busy because they know they have me to take care of business.
