Yes, and I've stuck it between my legs a few times when at seedy locations with thugs in the parking lot, but have never had to use it.

ETA: I did shoot a snake out of the window once, if that counts.

I actually experienced the exact opposite, I started mouthing off to anybody and everybody once I started carrying. Different strokes I guess.
