Those bastards loved me out there because I gave as much shite as I took and I immediately admitted that I didn't know a goddamn thing.

CSB: We were switching out a couple spools of wire and setting up for the next pull one afternoon and the superintendent is sitting there watching me and one other guy do this. He saw me get the spool rod in the first spool we replaced, but saw me struggling to get the rod out of the other spool that needed replacing. He said, "Boy, you havin' trouble there?"

I replied, "Well, your wife can attest to this, I'm great at putting it in there, but not nearly as good at pulling out". Guy damn near pissed himself.

My first engineering job was as a process engineer for Chevron at their Richmond refinery. I could have made more money being a homeless bum than an engineer 1 in the bay area but it was a first job and they agreed up front to pay for my MBA.

Ricky I have worked both sides of the plant life. Operator and management. Management has its perks when the plant is running good and meeting its safety, production goals. Bonuses are good decent work hours and times can be good but when plant is running like hell sometimes due to circumstances beyond your control work will suck. Book it. Operator life is you do your job at the end of the shift you go home. Plant running like shite doesn't affect you as much other than you are gonna work harder. As a operator the sky $$is the limit if there is plenty overtime. Salary not so much. Just my .02

Prominetwon, we have 1000 or so applications for operating positions when we hire 3.

The maintenance side barely gets a handful. Same pay, same benefits same everything.

There is a shortage of skilled tradesmen and will need more.

Too many young men coming in with ptec instead of skills.

Good luck bro

OP don't feel bad. I've worked facilities with all entrances guarded by guys with M-16's. It starts to feel a little bit like prison then but not too bad.

I refused a few good jobs at facilities that required RFID tags so they can track your movements like an animal. F'k that.
