Gotcha

I didn't even think about you when they were filling my brothers spot after he got promoted. I thought you had already found something.

Where does he work, out of curiosity?

Entergy

He is a supervisor and my pops has been there for 20 something years running the shipping and supplying. He's getting ready to retire maybe by the end of this year.

Ah.

I've had a couple leads so far. I hear there are two hiring periods a year. One coming up in Sept/Oct. again, so we'll see.

Mechanical engineering yeah I realize I will be in a plant but the scope of work will be completely different and it will be a predominantly an office orientated job with some field work.

Lmao who fed you that shite?? Many of you younger guys go out and don't do engineering for a while. Y'all become planners/procurement and do a lot of bitch work in the field for years....

You're a ME student, but interning as an electrician. I bet you wear your mono-goggles on front of your hard hat.

Yeah, you will be a salary employee forced to stay late evenings on projects, be on call on weekends, talked down to by the "plant manager", made fun of by those "poor miserable operators", and not make as much money as they do for most of your career.

Good luck awesome guy

Now that I'm middle aged and tired of "the rat race" for revenue, new business, fighting competitors, there's a part of me that envies them and mindlessly repetitive acts all day.

I think this every so often. Then a couple weeks ago I was sitting outside at lunch smoking a cig & shooting the shite with some random work crew. Holy shite those guys were dumb. Talking to them 8 hours a day would be like a drill in the brain.

Immediately brought back memories of working summers in college, when I learned that it takes a special kind of person to still be working manual labor in 100 degree heat at age 55, and it does not result from a series of thoughtful, well-considered life decisions.

I worked on a crew of electricians out at a plant kinda like this. A lot of them were dumb, but most of them were pretty cool. It was a boring job much of the time, but when the weather was nice, the job was downright pleasant and payed well. Plus, all I had to do to get respect was talk about banging peoples' mothers. Fun group

Dumb electricians are not long for this earth. Most electricians may not articulate as well as you would have them do, but try speaking the language of just basic electricity & theory with one, and he will have your mind spinning.

I learned many years ago not to judge a book by its cover.

Not all these guys are master electricians. I've dealt with plenty of dudes who've worked in the field for 20+ years but don't know shite about electrical theory other what the boss tells them. They know their tools and how to think mechanically, but theory? nah.

kb, I hear you on the "frick your mom" stuff. The guys I was talking to, one of them was like "damn, Tom's old lady has a big ole arse." Then for ten minutes it was literally 100% comments about Tom's old lady's arse. "Yeah her arse so big!" "man, shut up." "Tom why aintcha show us a picture of your old lady's arse!" "man, shut up."

And suck on my engineering cock non OT-Ballers

And to the guy that said my English sucks guess what it does.

Nah I would never do that. You just think I'm a stereotypical engineer I ask my journeyman everything because I have never worked in the field all I know is math and theory but that doesn't mean shite. I think it's easier to learn from people that have been doing It forever.
