Liqour is so different from beer.
5% alcohol with active yeast is way different than 195 proof clear moonshine, or so I've been told from people who live in states where it's legal.
Basically you get a 50 lb bag of dextrose split it into 2 bags add some yeast in 10 gallon containers keep it around 70 degrees and 7 days later you can start distilling spirits.

you can also do ice distillation if you live somewhere cold. I had a friend do that, he brewed up some plum wine and then set itoutside and let it freeze, then scraped off the ice. it tasted alright.
Or if you have a chest freezer. I've always wanted to freeze-distill a batch of homebrew, maybe a eisbock maybe.

Just be careful, try not to use an open flame on your still and watch for pressure build up
My roommates and I made several batches while in college, was fun. We called it liquid retard

FYI, it is not illegal to distill essential oils. It is a lot of the same equipment. Just saying. If you are asked, your still is for distilling essential oils. Look up homedistiller.org

You can literally make a still out of any stainless or copper container that you can seal to collect the vapors. It's illegal to distill alcohol without proper permitting but perfume distillation is legal.
Cutting the methanol is easy. Catch your first runnings in 50mL increments and burn it. If the flame is mostly orange, toss it. If the flame is mostly blue, you're into the good ethanol.
As far as making rum, I can't help. I'd only hypothetically distill white liquor because my hypothetical still hypothetically produces the same flavor spirit no matter what I use for the mash. Then, hypothetically of course, I'd use that white liquor to make whiskey. A package of turbo yeast and some table sugar goes a long way.

its a lot cheaper to put it outside, and kinda cool story. but i can see how that wouldn't work in btr.

You growing weed too? Quit posting about your illegal activities on the internet. That would be sound advice.
I am growing weed, and it's legal. I trimmed over 13 ounces yesterday, and probably have 3-4 pounds to trim over the next couple days.

Sure, but I already have an upright freezer... only problem is that I use it with a temp controller as a kegerator, so I'd have to remove all other beers in order to freeze distill anything.

i have an upright freezer in my basement, you can have it if you drive to colorado and get it.
eta: you have to move it yourself, which is why i havent got rid of it.

My buddies have one from them. I would suggest finding a forum that knows what the frick they are talking about and not these people.
It took them about 8 months to really get good at it.

Can turn that into a nice beer run.

Google and Youtube should be able to provide you with what you need. You can make something out of a pressure cooker but make sure you know what you're doing and that there's no lead anywhere in your set up. The "heads and tails" are the first and last portions of what is distilled and shouldn't be consumed.

you would probably need to rent a trailer.

Yup, and that's just for the beer I'd bring back.

I have freeze CONCENTRATED(distilled) some hard cider. Was not bad and very potent. Very very easy to do. Freeze to around 4 below in a milk jug. Pull it out and invert it into another container for about an hour or until all the color has left the ice. Let it age though!

you know, i believe its been tried before.....a frisky go getter with a moustache, a tractor trailer and a basset hound did what can't be done. Although I think the final destination was atlanta.

Hmmm... I have a big batch of cider fermenting right now. Might have to pull off a gallon and try this.

As a ton of people have said it's still illegal.
If brewing beer has taught me anything, make sure everything is as clean as you possibly can before any sort of alcohol is made. It is so easy to pervert the beer/liquor.

You are essentially making applejack. It gets better with aging.
