It stops in the CBD, Nola Airport, Gonzales, MidCity BR, and maybe LaPlace. From the CBD, one can take the streetcar all over (plus there's the added St. Claude line coming). Once in BR, one will be able to take the streetcar downtown, to Independence Park, and to LSU. There will also be bus lines to take one anywhere in the city running past the bus station there.
Is this the streetcar they're putting between LSU and downtown BR?

How much public transit do you ride?
Almost none.
I take the train from Trenton to NYC sometimes.
(This isn't the tri-state area, baw - this isn't even Northern Virginia.)

I wonder why that is? Plenty of white Southerners used public transit up until the late fifti... Ohhh.

fill me in on this..
There have been proposals in the past to put a massive airport in Ascension Parish near Gonzales that would rival DFW and Atlanta. There is also this idea of putting a major league baseball stadium there too. Basically, AP, as the most populated area near the approximate midpoint between the two cities would be the home of a massive international hub airport, Cabelas, a new hospital (St. Elizabeth would be expanded), Tanger, updated downtown, multiple new high schools, massive new req facility at Lamar-Dixon, and parish wide water.

Public transportation in the south isn't bad. Most of the stories come from people who never ride it.

This would be awesome.

Traffic expands to fill available lanes. That's not seriously in dispute.
This is like a chicken and the egg thing.

It was a Land, Sea, Rail proposal that was to be built in the Convent area. NOLA politics basically squashed it. Think it was Bombardier behind it.
20 years later there is finally a new smaller terminal being built at MSY.

I have always seen this described as a cargo terminal. Not a major travel hub.

I would assume you would buy a yearly pass.

I'm not sure if there would be enough traffic to justify the expense in this case, but I bet most people who sh*t on the idea of trans in general don't have much experience with trains. They are a really nice way to travel in the right circumstances.
IMO those circumstances include a travel distance of about 100-500 miles and destinations with decent public transportation. It makes sense for NOLA, but I'm not sure about BR.
I've ridden trains a lot along the northeast corridor (DC, Baltimore, New York) and in Japan and they are a pleasure. Much, much more comfortable and less hassle than an airplane, also more comfortable than a car b/c you can walk around, use the bathroom, and you can get work done, etc. In big cities they are nicer than driving b/c you don't have to f*ck with your car once you are there and they usu deliver you right to the center of the city.

Part of that is, yes.

Another aspect of this is that you don't have to worry about how much you've had to drink when you're on a train. Hell both LIRR and Metro North here serve booze on the platform after work everyday . Makes you wonder if LSP or your local PDs will be against it because of lack of DWI's.
Aside from that, a lot of the trains up here let you bring bikes onto some of the cars. If you live relatively close to the train station you can just bike there. That's a big reason why there's so many bike lanes up here.

Baton Rouge has almost zero bike lanes. I think NOLA is mostly the same.

people say public transit doesn't work but I see the NOLA streetcars packed full of white faces.

You would be incorrect. NOLA has a lot of bike lanes. You can now bike to any neighborhood of the city on a bike lane.
(though some are road-share lanes)
They have been adding them all over, over the last 5-7 years.

I rode the busses in NOLA a few times when I lived there. Always amazed at how clean they were. Also used the ferry quite a bit.
I think the train would be a good idea except that so many people have such a shitty attitude about everything.

Well they have existed there for 180 years, and the city was built around them. It is a way of life there. Not so in Baton Rouge.

This right here. This is why I love monorail threads.
I can't wait to hop on the bullet train and party at Schlitz n Giggles.
