There's no smoking ban or uber debate on the NS because no one actually goes out over there.

You say how easy it is to drive across the bridge but that the number 1 excuse I hear from family, friends, and coworks for not doing things.

Those people are giving you excuses in most cases. Congrats on family, friends, and coworks that don't enjoy your company.

Seems most people are conceding it's not a NS v. SS thing, why do you seem to want to make it that?

Don't give me this "NOLA loves all" kum ba yah BS.

Well said.

New Orleans (much like the rest of La), more than anything else is a culture and a way of life. It isn't just a zip code. There is so much greatness to the city alot of people want to stay close so they can enjoy many of the offerings but do not want to be entrenched in it daily. So, they trade a longer drive home after work or after an event. Others put more value on being entrenched in the culture daily and handle other aspects accordingly. Like New York City, or Los Angelas, it is a way of life and there really isn't a right or wrong amount of that culture to be a part of it. Different amounts work for different people and the key is to find what works for you.

Oh come on. I said Nola was MORE live and let live. Not perfectly Kum ba ya in every way.

Tell you what. Come hang out with my niece (she's white) and her adopted black children in Nola. Then go with her to the NS. I know it's one small example, but the difference in treatment is incredible.

What is it with the Northshore and the penis envy for New Orleans?

New Orleans couldn't give you flying fricks for anything North of the Lake, but they sure do spend a lot of time trying to justify their existence.

There's just not a lot for people here who aren't social climbing, PTA, yoga pants, soccer moms. Not saying there's anything necessarily wrong with those people. That just seems to be only type of person around.

There is a odd sort of dynamic here in that regard.

IMO it seems to be moreso the newer types - they move here because they're so stoked about living "on the Northshore!" and so excited about their houses and things and lives, and they love to talk about them and compare...it's kinda overboard. I guess the NS kinda attracts those types to sort degree. Whereas the natives are more like, "yeah I'm here, I like it." All that shite isn't as big of a deal.

The fault of a lot of natives or long-termers is they've had the same group of friends their whole lives and aren't really looking to add on or make an effort trying to.

I don't mean the above in a strict or overly-broad sense, just some observations.

It sounds like you are like WWL, you think Bogalusa is the Northshore.

Nobody cares that black kids have white parents in Mandeville. Many have adopted children of different races.

Whenever someone posts here asking about living on the Northshore people that live in Orleans parish chime in saying how they could never live there, etc.

My wife's first cousin lives in lacombe, has two adopted black kids and often takes my daughter with them to the trailhead at Koop/Abita/Mandeville, the Lakefront, movies, etc. and in the times I have been with them I have seen nothing out of the ordinary nor have I ever heard from her that anything has happened or been said.

Now, I don't want to provide anecdotal evidence as proof that there isn't racism on the northshore because I know there is. But I don't think it's fair to assume that black people can't go without being harassed either.

I know exactly what you mean. But, people from the NS seem to be completely oblivious to it.

I don't think it's necessarily racial. It's anything that deviates from the collectively accepted norm that gets the side eye here.

ETA: There's nothing wrong at all with yoga pants, PTA, soccer, camps, whatever. It's just if those aren't your thing, you're looked at like you have 2 heads. And people are just oblivious to how judgmental it is.
