The motorist, a DJ and sales consultant at Best Buy according to his Facebook page, faced a $128 fine.

While there is no state law banning drivers from leaving their cars unattended, there are dozens of local town ordinances.
'We have five to ten cars stolen this way every winter,' Roseville Police Chief James Berlin told 7 Action News. 'It's dangerous, and of course it drives everyone's insurance rates up. It drives our crime rates up.'
Many ordinances allow motorists to use a remote start because the vehicle is locked but prohibit leaving keys in the ignition.
While a good reason to never leave your car unattended, it seems ridiculous to write someone a ticket for it on their own property.

Cop should be fired for being a tard.

Then why do they make cars that can be started with the press of a button, specifically for this purpose?
Because those vehicles are locked and don't have the key inside of the vehicle.

The ticket says the keys are in the ignition. Possibly a lot of cars stolen in this city, which I guess would be the only justification for this stupid arse ticket.

Cops cant seem to be able to help themselves shed the variuos labels they have been assigned.
Then the police chief goes off on the guy for posting the ticket on facebook.

So don't target the car thieves. Make criminals out of the otherwise law abiding people.
fricking dumb.

That's only if it's been remotely started. Either that or my Range Rover is retarded(distinct possibility). If you've been driving and you get out with the remote and the car still on it can be driven away. It just can't be restarted.
Actually, now that I think about it, it does ding and my wife's Jeep GC does the same thing if the fob leaves the car. I know this because she always gets out with the fob while I'm still in the car, but you can keep driving.

The OP didn't say, car stolen from driveway, so...

Same principle though, car running unattended.

Can you give a ticket like that on private property?

This is the correct answer.

I would go to jail before I would pay this, just to make a point
What point would you make? That you went to jail for not paying a ticket?

Cops can't "trespass", that's something criminals do. If anything, the perp was trespassing by breaking the law.
Can't believe how distressful this little punk is, posting this on the internet. I hope they roughed him up a little to teach him a lesson.

Agh! If only there was someone we could turn to to prevent car thefts.
