I'm speaking for nurses though.

No offence to your job (nurses work harder than doctors), but I bet its not the same for doctors. Money buys you freedoms.

Ya, this was a pretty common sense "no shite" decision to me but I've seen this discussed on here before as if it wasn't.

It's not a "no shite" decision if the pot is medically needed. Or should you also get fired for diabetes meds, pain meds, cholesterol meds etc when taken at home?

Really? You're essentially saying employers should be able to fire employees for following the law.

Put another way, do you agree with firing employees for drinking off the clock, say on a Friday night, or Saturday tailgating?

If it's interfering with work then absolutely

Seems like a no-brainer.

Obviously, but what if it's not interfering with work? If it's pot--you're fired. If it's pills or whiskey--no worries.

Where do you work where your employees agree to stop drinking entirely? I mean are they AA rehabs or something? If an employer told me that was a condition of employment I would walkout immediately.

And if it's not? Say you're tailgating Saturday and only have to go back to work Monday morning.

If you read the whole thread, you will understand, unless you are on drugs.

1/10.

You can't possibly have employees.

Am I the only one who picked up the satire here?

The courts and employers know that most of these people don't "need" medical marijuana. It's almost as bullshite as the adderall prescriptions.

Twist things much. You're essentially saying that I would fire an employee for driving 55 in a posted 55 mph speed limit.

So they know better than the doctor prescribing/recommending?

Why do we have doctors at all?

Apparently.

I guess most of the OT are on drugs at work. I may reconsider my thoughts on the subject.

You first said

quote:

This is only fair. Employers should have say in their employees weed use. If you don't like it, get another job. Also, muscle spasms LOL

Then I said

quote:

Really? You're essentially saying employers should be able to fire employees for following the law.

How is that twisting anything? If they are following the law, and it happens off the clock (not before work), what interest should an employer have?

Pot still isn't legal in the eyes of the federal government and isn't an FDA approved drug. And in a state like Colorado, getting a 'script for medicinal marijuana is a total joke.

Now, should pot be legal under federal law? Yea, I don't see why not. But employers have the right to name the conditions of employment. Hell, Anheuser-Busch employees can get fired if they are caught drinking a competitor's product in a bar where AB products are readily available.

Because "following the law" is an extremely broad statement that you are applying to a situationally narrow topic.

They can see through the bullshite just like most people can, but way to take that statement to its logical extreme.

That's a bit of a stretch. Hypothetically, you get drunk on a Sunday night, come into work hungover, drive a company vehicle, and rear-end someone while you're BAC is still .04-.06.

In this case you are still "following the law," but your employer has every right to fire you for operating a company vehicle with an intoxicant in your system.

If you don't like these terms, go work somewhere else. I don't see the big deal here.
