You also have to take into consideration that many businesses don't have steady years; great year vs. poor year. I consider my current company small, ~500+ employees. Christmas bonuses aren't guaranteed but we had a relatively good year.
Someone mentioned earlier that companies that pay bonuses don't pay their employees accordingly.

We have a kid room and sitters we can call in. No reason to miss unless REALLY sick and if you're that sick, you need to see a doctor. I don't count legit illnesses against them, but staying home for bullshite or missing excessive days with "sick" kids is bullshite.

we don't call it a christmas bonus, but it typically works out to 3% - 10% of gross income depending on the performance of the company...
over the past few years, bonuses have been increasing but annual raises have been decreasing, which pisses me off....

I get the joy of knowing that I have a job for another year.

2 bonuses 2 times a year normally about 2/3 of a typical paycheck

Well there goes any excuse at my attempt at playing devil's advocate. I guess the only other question I have is, when can I start?!
Really though, I take the approach that during the week is make money time, and the weekend is lazy time. And I can be pretty damn lazy, but not at the expense of making my livelihood. Don't really understand the hate, your business seems to be very accommodating. I also think many don't know the definition of the word "bonus" when they act like they're entitled to something. Unless, of course, it was negotiated before taking the position.
keep on keeping on.

Sometimes my replies can come across as boastful and arrogant. I can seem like quite a dick at times. Not always unintentionally.

No.
Its a production bonus, everyone company wide gets a bonus depending on hrs worked and how well the company did. I work for a publicly traded fabricator.
