No problem. Nobody went to the quarters back then. Fat city was the place to be. Shanks everywhere. Early 70's = to free loving from the 1960's

It was off Metry Rd, between Rosa and Focis... Carrolton is further down by Metry Grammar...

We use to sneak in riding our bikes through the exits.... I remember they had the Exorcist playing when it came out...

Ok...here's some more...

Do you guys remember the restaurant that had a big shark aquarium?

Does the lakefront town count? That museum about the swamp and indians that lived there with outdoor displays?

And no one probably knows this guy, but when I was really really young I went to some guys house who had it decked out in the best model train displays in Metairie.

Was that Sharky's Reef? I think it was a night club as well.

There was another drive in between the interstate & metairie rd and between oaklawn & lake ave. It was off that one street back there with a canal in the middle that crossed under I-10.

I was seven years old and the designated cockblocker for my older siblings. Folks would let them take the car (76 mercury cougar) on dates to that drive in but I had to tag along.

didn't one of these have 2 screens? one that you could actually see from the road?

table...We went so often that Davis and Virginia would always sit down and eat dinner with us whenever we ate there.

House of Lee was awesome. I was there getting take out one night with my grandmother and Davis took me to a table at the back and introduced me to Harry Lee.

worked for Harry's sister Lorraine lee when she ownded Entre' Computer Centre on Vets. Got a few free meals at house of lee as well as imperial palace in nola.

Her daughter Victoria was pretty hot.

Airline Drive-In was at Cleary Ave. and Airline Highway. When it closed the Real Superstore (National Canal-Villere) opened there. When they went tango-uniform, Sam's Club opened there.

Joy Panorama was right across the street, where Autozone, Take 5 Auto and Enterprise are now.

Some Metry things I miss:

1) Dollar movies at the Joy on Airline & Cleary (closed around 1997) and the Joy on Vets & Roosevelt (closed 2000- last movie I saw there was Gladiator)
2) Panchos on Vets- the new/closed one on Labarre by Airline sucked
3) Roy Rogers on Vets
4) Bonanza steak house on Vets and Clearview across the street from the mall (it was next to a Shoe Town)
5) Putt-Putt on Vets near Transcontinental
6) The go-kart track on Vets by David Drive- it became a WalMart in like 1985, and then it is an Academy/H.H. Gregg now
7) Rax on Vets- i think it became a Circuit City in the 1990's
8) Kirschenstein's BBQ on West Esplanade by Severn- they had barstools with horse saddles on them for kids!
9) House of Lee on Vets
10) The trampoline place on Vets near Bonnabel- esp. before Mardi Gras parades
11) Paradise Lanes and Pelican Lanes (I went to birthday parties at both)
12) Hard to believe Taco Tico on Vets is now gone

I've heard horror stories of what some employees did with the food. Still ate there quite a bit.

Those enchiladas were incredible

A few I haven't; seen mentioned when skimming the thread

Sound Warehouse on vets. I remember that had stations set up where you could listen t the music before you bought the tape. That was fancy. That was late 80's I believe.

Two guys pizza on Severn and W. Esplanade. Not sure what it is now but it became Mr. Gyros before they moved not too long ago.

Catfish Shack was the other Friday night dinner spot. It was on Severn between Vets and the interstate. I think its some chain now.

Shall's (sp?) farm. I remember riding bikes there to buy candy in the early to mid 80's. Don't even remember where it was. I'm assuming its just developed land in Metairie now.

I still call gas stations Time Savers.

Right after Katrina you could drive around Metairie and see Time Savers after the Easy Serve signs came down from the wind. I took some cool pictures of them at the time but in '05 the flip phone didn't have the best camera so all of that is gone. At that time right after the storm a lot of these old business signs were revealed again. It was pretty eerie.

Girard Vikings, baby...

Our fight song:

"Girard is the team that will win...
We will scratch, we will claw, we will bite you.
It doesn't matter how you play the game
As long as you win, as long as you win, as long as you win!"

Playing at Airline Park/Miley with the Saints practice facility being right there we would go through the hole cut in the fence and play on the practice field and kick field goals
