Tourism? In Central? What kind of tourism do they attract now?

It wrong when the vast majority of the citizens do not want a Hotel in their city

Why?

quote:

Noone elected Shelton on the platform of "We gonna build a fricking hotel in the middle of your goddammed bedroom community so I can get rich and all my developer biddies who contributed to my campaign can get paid SON"

So if Holiday Inn Express wanted to build a unit at the Corner of Sullivan and Greenwell Springs people would be opposed?

quote:

We fricking voted for him so he would use the tax revenue to provide services for the city

You'd like to think a small hotel would add to the tax base; thus lowering taxes for others there in Central.

quote:

That is really it. If you gave Central the chance to be a ISD without incorporating we would have done it without a second thought tbh,.

Now you're making sense.

What exactly are the activities and tourism opportunities that would bring enough people to Central to necessitate a hotel?

There's a decent chance that a hotel in Central could support itself with 7 or 8 fall Saturdays alone.

Got 3 in Zachary. They get a lot of use for baseball tournaments during the spring and summer. Not sure what other use it gets. We are fairly close to the airport.

TO answer your questions posed to my post.

Re: Why

--Because most of the citizens there are nimbys. And that is not a bad thing 99% of the time. It is a great quiet city that everyone was super happy with . The was not having control of our schools. We got that. Our schools are fricking awesome for being a public school in EBR Parish. That is all we want. We do not want more tourist events. We do not want a population explosion of any kind.

I know that is backwards, but it is a super conservative place that people want to just being able to disappear to when they clock out. The hotel and other "ideas"to expand the city are just fricking dumb. Central needs to be who it is.

Except when it comes to chain restaurants. Central will burn a local establishment to the ground if it means we'll get a Chili's in its place.

....the money collected would first need to pay back whatever incentives were given to the developers to plop a hotel in an area where the demand for hotels minimal and has never been researched

Denham Springs gets a little more vehicle traffic than Central. But, not by much.

For real though, there are a few hotels (or motels) in Baker and in Zachary.

Those actually do pretty good business in the spring and summer and to a lesser degree in the fall due to baseball and soccer tournaments
