I wouldn't have noticed had you not posted so quickly and I saw it didn't change.

Calling people stupid when they say stupid things is abrasive apparently.

Anybody who thinks this guy dropped $55,000 to knowingly poach this animal is an idiot. Guy got duped, lion king got killed, big deal. The authorities will be plenty harsh on the "guide" and landowner. Its Africa for christ sake, they're exterminating people like its going out of style.

Total scumbag. The only positive aspect of this story is the thought that you will lose all sources of income, lose your family, and die lonely and broke. I hope it was worth getting your rocks off while killing an innocent, magnificent animal.
What an absolute douchebag.

Patients at this dental office should know that they're funding this mans ILLEGAL hunting of protected animals. He lured the lion out of its protected environment with raw meat then shot it with an arrow. It suffered for over 40 hours, a slow death, until he shot it! What skill is there in shooting an injured, helpless animal?! How could he pull the trigger and feel proud? Sick.
This isn't the first time he's been in hot water for illegal killing, while he has shot and killed lions for trophy in the past he was found guilty of shooting a black bear in a protected area and dragging its carcass for miles until it was inside a designated hunting zone.
i love the people using yelp to attack this guy, essentially showing how much of a POS site it is already. No one should ever use that place. What hypocrites.
I have no clue why people go in search of hunting big game in Africa, not my thing, but also, not my problem/business. i dont support it, but i also don't care about people doing shite that doesn't affect my well being.
It surely is pathetic how bored people are to ruin this guy and his career like they have. If it was illegal, things over there will be handled. Its sad how pathetic the internet allows people all over to destroy someone like this. its pretty disgusting. oh well

I will go on thinking big game hunters are idiots
Well, there are a lot of "idiots" on here much more intelligent, educated and accomplished than you. So, where does that put you? You don't hunt or agree with it? Fine. I'm not going to name call, but to state that I am an idiot because I pursue big game removes all doubt that you are one.
There are slob hunters and there are ethical hunters. This dentist most likely falls into to slob category. However, he may have had no knowledge of the situation, but he should've seen the tracking collar if he was in bow range.
I provide meat for my family that we eat damn near on a daily basis. Can I afford food? Yes, but if you really want to be a granola fricker about it...what better way to feed my family than with food I caught, killed, grew or gathered? And I teach them those skills and respect for the game we take. We waste no meat. And often eat organ meat and other tasty parts that many others would throw away. So take your bullshite back to you fricking recycled tampon Yurt and tell your boyfriend you met a real man to day and he was mean to you and hurt your feelings.

And your ramblings are ridiculous.

Would have been more interesting if the lion had a gun and was able to use it.

I bet he tells really boring tales about his quest to complete Pope and Young's animal list
Oh I bet he tell's awesome stories-- I mean we know he doesn't value honesty to highly so they're probably super-embellished and/or straight up plagarized from Hemingway and Roosevelt but still I bet the stories are entertaining. I'm sure his Zimbabwean cellies will enjoy them in a few months.
Hell in his stories he probably does it Manute Bol style- just him and lion and spear (if he wants to go back a go for it like Bol did with no gun back up, I'll chip 5 bucks on Kickstarter)

The African gov't? That's like saying "the North American gov't". Africa is a continent, not a country.

From my perspective, I don't really give a shite about people hunting. The shite looks fun.
With that said, I draw the line on quasi endangered animals. You want to go out and kill some hippos or cape buffaloes knock yourself out.
But there really aren't a hell of a lot of lions left. There were about a quarter million left 25 years ago now there are like 15-20k lions in the entire world. That's not a lot. Lions help keep the ecosystem in check, they kill things like zebras and shite which help keep the zebra population in check. If all the lions died you'd have a serious migration problem in 20 years or so with wild life animals bogarting human settlements.
One of the pictures that he took was him killing a rhino. There were about 25 thousand african rhinos back in the mid 1900s now there are maybe 2thousand total. total. in the entire world. Western Black Rhinos there were about a million of them at the turn of the 20th century. They are now 100% extinct. There aren't any at all left.
Stay away from the endangered shite and I have no problem.

i'd make it a rule that if you wanted to kill a lion you'd have to first go out and kill a black mamba first.
you go find a black mamba and shoot an arrow at it and kill it before it bites you, dammit you can go hunt all the african lions you want

Funny that you should mention Hemingway. This dentist has a vacation home about 100 miles due north of Key West.
There is the Florida link to this story.

CNN has an article this morning with views opposing your altruistic conservationist claims.

But many conservationists dispute the value of that approach.
"Studies have shown that with these big, lavish hunts, only 3% to 5% of the income from that hunt actually ends up for local people on the ground where the hunt happens," Flocken said.
"There are much better ways to earn this kind of money -- revenue from nature tourism, where the animal's not killed, brings in three to 15 times what's brought in from these trophy hunts in Africa," he told CNN.
The Oxford University researchers who have studied the lions where Cecil lived found that trophy hunting just outside the national park had "an alarming impact on lion numbers and population structure within the park."
"Each removal of a male lion by hunters on the borders of the park created a 'territorial vacuum' which drew males from further inside the protected area into boundary areas, where they too became vulnerable to hunters," the university said.
A complete moratorium on trophy hunting around the park between 2005 and 2008 coincided with a 50% increase in the lion population there, the researchers noted.
Trophy hunting restarted in 2009 but with close monitoring by the Oxford research team, Zimbabwean authorities and other groups to make sure its impact on the lion population was sustainable.
