It's not difficult work but it is hard work. I'd wait till it cools off a bit.

What is that a ft? $30?

Probably. I think it's around $5 per board

Been a few years, but that would have been a really good price installed.

FWIW, I would go with cedar over pine. Won't look all Duck Dynasty in a year.

It does look nice, just afaid of a tornado or fence destroying it then trying to match colors.

Plus the 4x pricetag.

Also posts should be 1/3 under ground. There is no absolute depth. It's a function of height.

The way this is stated is complete overkill. For a 8' visable fence you need. 4' underground?

8' visable, 2' underground. Plenty. That would be 1/5 in those terms, or simply 25% of visable.

If I was doing a 8' fence, god knows why, I would do 2' as a minimum.

6' fence is usually 18"-2'.

If someone does it for 12 bucks a foot let them. I charge $14 and that's cheaper than most.

Hardest part would be getting the materials.

Good materials (low moisture content to prevent warping) and making sure your posts are plumb.

The way you match colors on non painted pickets is to buy extra and leave them outside and let them weather.

It's not hard, but it's physical and a little time consuming. I've got about 160ft I'm about to pay someone to tear down and rebuild. $18 a foot for pine. Anyone know any cheaper?

building a privacy fence Rent an auger to dig the holes, like $50. Call a lumber yard and have materials delivered. Run string lines. Mark and dig holes. Set post with concrete, keep em square and a little less than 8' centers for when you inevitably frick it up. Let sit for a day or two. Hang runners. Hang boards.

What he said. I built one for my house. Saved about 1500 dollars doing it myself but you will need a friend to help hang the runners

Vinegar with steel wool, use a sprayer to apply.

Brush on a little yogurt to make some algae type stuff appear.

My comment was to the $5 a board stuff. I would spend the money then take up backyard space anyway.

Run a string line and mark your posts.

C-clamp or screw a block at each mark.

Set boards on blocks and screw in place.

Faster/easier with a friend, more fun as well.

Yep. This is exactly how I did 300 feet of fencing by myself. Not that hard at all.

Had friends help with the posts but the rest was a one man job.

I just built one...150 long. Set posts 8 feet apart, but dug holes 2.5 feet deep. Used 8 foot 4x4 and 6 foot slats. Use coated screws. Total material cost about $1500.

Make sure you use screws on the pickets though. Over time nails will back out of the wood.

use ring shank nails with a gun and you'll be 10x faster than screwing the pickets

mine is going on 5 years old and I haven't seen the first nail try to back out
