I hate lawsuits, but WOW that thing just was a disaster waiting to happen. I mean what the heck, it had issues from start to finish basically. If the water jets are what causes this wow.

Why would they build a hill so big that big of a drop wouldn't push you over?

It seems like they really didn't involve actual engineers with math in this thing at all and simply winged it.

Interesting that on the same day, after the death of the boy, the nets were removed. Hmmm, wonder if they will be available in the event of a law suit. I would sue the crap out of that company!!!

I would think the slide is no longer "dangerous safe", but actually very dangerous.

According to park policy, 3 riders must weigh a combined minimum of 400 pounds to keep the rubber raft from going airborne off the hill after the initial 17-story, nearly vertical drop.

If this is true, that boy's family are going to be the sad owners of a Schlitterbahn waterpark. The park knew it was possible to fly off of that ride and operated the ride anyway. This is not the same as when a restraint system fails and someone gets killed; in that case, if properly designed, it's just a sad case of "shite happens". This is gross negligence: operating a ride that is known to not be fundamentally safe and, instead of relying on an inherently safe design, relying on the judgment of whatever minimum wage 17 year old is running the ride to keep the raft on the slide. The owner's quotes from the opening of the ride are damning in light of this event and that 400 pound design deficiency the article claims.

Possibly because they were damaged by an airborne 10-year old.

All we can hope for is that it was so traumatic that his mind went into shock and prevented him from being aware of the world post decapitation...

That,,,,,,,,,, Or that he was knocked unconscious, yeah, that would work too.

This is just such a sad deal all-around. My daughter loves those things. One summer we went to the two Texas Schillterbahns.

Every parent reading about this is cringing...

Apparently his 12 year old brother witnessed the entire thing.

That story turned my stomach.

12 year old Nate watched 10 year old brother Caleb get decapitated and come to rest in the bottom of the slide. Man I pray for that young boy.

I am sure the kid was unconscious. Doubt he was mentally processing anything going on around him.

In shock.

The sled has the potential to fly off the tracks, so let's use metal bars to hold up our "protective" netting....

Brain activity doesn't mean conscious thoughts...at least I don't believe it does I think it just means the brain is still firing off electrical impulses or whatever you want to call it.

Exactly. Just a completely idiotic design. The netting alone, a very loose weave, could do serious damage to flesh. But those bars... Come on, man.

A proper safety net needed to be a very tight weave - with openings too small for fingers and toes and ears and noses. Something other than a net would probably be better. But those bars...

Instead of bars under the net, you needed large hoops on the outside, far away from the net, with ropes or something suspending the netting. Some design that would prevent a rider from crashing against a rigid object - WHICH WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE NETTING!

This is gross negligence.

According to the linked article, it was "elected officials day" at the park.

It's mind-boggling.

I mean we don't really know this is what happens. 100% of all decapitated people die before they can speak of what they experienced.
