I disagree. I would keep Northwestern, Mcneese, Nichols, LSU Shreveport, and ULM. Those all have big commuter catchment areas. And there is no other good option in the area. The others could go away and people could still drive somewhere to school.

I wonder what that campus land and buildings is worth at BSC?

Its a beautiful campus but the surrounding area is ghetto a.f.

I thought there was some talk of Auburn taking it over as they have no presence in Birmingham?

LSU just crossed the $billion endowment threshold. A lot of schools will be closing if that’s true

LSU-Shreveport has absolutely nothing to do with the medical school.

(Sorry, replied to the wrong person)

Several of those should become community colleges or specialized. Like ULM should just be a pharmacy and nursing school. Perhaps offer some associates degrees.

LSU-Alexandria should go back to being a two-year school. Louisiana had too many 4-year schools even before the expanded LSUA, which was stupid.

Southern Shreveport and Southern NOLA should both fold.

Yeah. Other than being in the LSU system, they aren't directly related. I think the average person that hasn't spent time in Shreveport wouldn't realize that they are across town from each other.

They're both part of the System. They are both in Shreveport (and both commonly referred to as LSU-S).

He's just saying he doesn't want to shut THAT (the med school) down. Nobody thinks the med school and the commuter college are the same thing.

Weird thing to blow up over. Settle down.

I didn't go to ULM but I know a number of people that majored in valuable degrees there and are doing really well professionally, so we will have to disagree on this one.

Not really relevant. There are successful people from all colleges. I'm sure Birmingham Southern had a lot of successful graduates.

Maybe not by you.

I've never heard of either place referred to as anything else.

I do think we should cut back on colleges in Louisiana, but your plan would have kids from Winsboro driving to Ruston every day which seems tough.

There’s an HBCU in Raleigh that hasn’t paid its employees in a few months and shut down classes for the rest of the semester (everyone is taking online classes the rest of the semester). Apparently they didnt have custodians and faculty were taking out trash etc. It’s a complete dumpster fire.

Samford offers a lot of practical degree programs that gets kids jobs: Accounting, Nursing, Business, etc.
Plus the pharmacy and law school and MBA programs.

Pharmacy is what my son is taking there. Great school. We could have sent him to Auburn for HALF what we’re paying but I think he’ll get a much better education at Samford. Class sizes smaller, MUCH better support system etc.
I love the security of it. After 10 pm there’s one way in and out and it’s guarded. Have to have an ID to get in.

His best friend was at BS on the football team. Don’t know where he’ll land next year. Shitty deal for those students.

All need closed down or converted into trade school/2 year juco’s that feed a four year college.

Yes. There are entirely too many 4 year public universities in Louisiana. Louisiana has a population 1/5 the size of Florida yet more public 4 year schools.

LSU could do far more for itself and the state if we weren't wasting money in Monroe, Shreveport, Alexandria and Natchitcoches.

Samford's bball coach played at Samford. His assistant coach at Samford was his head coach at BSC.
