Easily the most depressing zoo in the state of Louisiana.

The old Monkey Island was a paradise in the 60's!

Nola in mild temperatures is best. Animals don't do much when it's hot, but 70 degrees or so is perfect zoo weather

Take one of the Carnival Ships out of NOLA and sit by the buffet.

It's a bad zoo. The jungle around it is pretty rough too.

If u want to see the animals do anything but lay in the shade. I would wait until the fall. Just went recently and it was fairly warm. Damn near every animal was doing its best to avoid the sunlight. There is also tons of construction going on right now.

Nah

The Alexandria Zoo is legit. Especially for a town that size.

Check to see when they are finishing a bunch of construction at the NOLA zoo. They were doing a bunch when we went in January. Lots of stuff closed. I want to say they were supposed to be finished with most of it in September, but double check that.

I'm sure it will be super nice when they're done.

Monkey Island is still there. It's depressing.

Agree.

The couple of times I went, I spent more time thinking how I was going to bust those poor creatures out of those pathetic enclosures than I did enjoying the animals.

Alexandria Zoo is pretty legit I would say as well. Went to a private party there last month, they were showing off two new baby tiger cups. They had a recent new exhibit of South American animals. Check out the zoo and then after hit The nearby Gone Wild Safari.

They have a giraffe, camels, zebras, wilderbeasts and water buffaloes and ostriches and a variety of antelopes and gazelles. You get to feed them and everything. They also have some domestic animals like buffaloes and longhorns.

Thanks for advice, gonna get the family up early to get them there before the crowds and heat set in.

Wife (girlfriend at the time) and I went to the BR zoo around 2009 when we were in college and looking for something to kill time. We were literally the only people in the place at one point. It was a sad sight.

Agree about Alexandria. A few years back I was there for a meeting mid-day, then was meeting friends that evening. I had a few hours to kill and happened to be by the zoo so I thought wth.

I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a great zoo for the size of the city.

They need to fire the leadership of the Baton Rouge Zoo and bring in people that actually want the zoo to improve. The current zoo director is only interested in traveling on the zoo's dime.

This, if you're going to New Orleans. I went once in the early part of May, and it was like August.

I was miserable. The New Orleans Zoo is nice, but you need to go when it's cool.

The zoo in Broussard was pretty decent but I haven't been to it in over ten years.
