Best Remedy For Dog Itching?

One of our dogs got a bunch of mosquito bites and what looks like a rash on his stomach over the weekend... and he's scratching it a lot to the point where I'm a little worried he's going to start getting open sores.
Any good options?
He has taken a little benadryl (which is dog safe, we checked) and it seems to help, but I'm more concerned about when he's left alone tomorrow during the day. I don't want him to scratch himself bloody. Google says cortisone is probably safe to use, has anyone here used that on their dog? I know I can't put that on him when we leave because he will lick it too much, but maybe tonight it will help him out and make him feel better tomorrow?
Other ideas?

Cones won't stop scratching just biting.

Give him enough benadryl to knock him out all day
Cortisone cream + a cone woukd help itching and prevent licking the cream
Eta
Also have to worry about your other pup licking the cortisone cream.

Thought about that, would keep him from licking for sure, but he would still be able to scratch with his back paws. A lot of the worst spots are on his upper chest, front legs, and neck.
If it doesn't improve I will take him to the vet.

Benadryl is your best bet which youve already used. There are some topical creams at PetCo etc that you can get as well. Unless pup's nails are so long that he has opened up long scratches, you should be good with the benadryl. I'm not a veterinarian by any means but we spoil and care for our weimaraner like a child so we have experience
Edit:
Just re-read and saw that there is a rash he is scratching. Your local vet should be able to give you a topical cream on the spot. Not a big deal but something topical may soothe him more than just benadryl tablets

A cone would probably be good for a few days depending on how bad it is. My dog had to wear one for a week while an incision was healing. Before the cone, she licked and scratched it so much it became infected and wouldn't close

Sounding like this will be the best bet.

Yeah, want something to put on the rash that isn't a danger if he licks at it.
Will take him in to see about a good topical ointment.

Benadryl makes my dog puke, even in tiny amounts. My dog scratches a lot bc of dry skin. We give her olive oil in milk each night, and that helps but doesn't completely solve the problem.

I assume she drinks it? Never heard of that one. Benadryl has helped him a lot, just worried about when he is alone during the day tomorrow.

Sounds like allergies. Some dogs get ocd about scratching. Try low dose benedryl. Also I heard that fish oil food supplement helps dry skin issues.

Is it possible your dog got into an area with chiggers?
Red bugs will do the same the dogs as they do to humans....itch like heck

It appears you didn't read the OP, just the title.
