Oatmeal or medicated soap bath. You need to keep those bites and sores clean, otherwise they will get infected.

My dog got a lot of rashes when she was a pup (pit bull, sensitive skin) benadryl, steroids (if it keeps up) and a topical lotion called resihist (smells like coconut) helped. Rashes quit by the time she was about 2.

Mine has been off and on scratching like crazy since early spring. Prednisone has twice cleared it up for a long stretch. Need to go back in for more.

Eta: I've never used cortisone on the dog but I have on the sensitive skin horse with no issues.

I think we are going with cortisone on the two spots. I'll watch all night to make sure he doesn't lick it off. Then vet in the morning.

My vet had seen significantly more allergy issues than usual this summer. Shack never had any issues until about April of this year. Vet will clear him up quick for you.

I hate prednisone. Makes him pee too much

Have you talked about using the newer biologics like Apaquel? It is expensive at first until you gradually decrease dose and it works better than steroids.

My dog has really been suffering lately from flea bites...she is terribly allergic to them...

I've tried everything...a couple days ago I started just covering her spots with Gold Bond powder (I went and got her the cheap knock-off from Walmart since the real stuff is pricey)

...so far, so good.

I was actually told about that by my trainer yesterday. Figure I'll ask when I go back in. She's a vet tech there too.

I stick my erect penis in a jar of peanut butter, then let the dog lick it off.

You will forget about the dog itching and so will it.

2% Cortizone cream will help alleviate the itching but you need to take him to the vet to get a shot to knock it out. Otherwise it will linger for a while.

Give him a good bath as late tonight or early tomorrow as you can and with an oatmeal based shampoo or soap. Then give him a benadryl or Claritin

Try pouring a little tussin on it. If you're almost out of tussin, just put some water in it, shake it up: More tussin

DO NOT USE OATMEAL: That works for humans but many dogs actually adversely react to its application; more irritation on the skin.

I recently researched the best remedy for my dog and discovered that DR. BRONNERS 18 in 1 hemp lavendar castile soap did the trick.

Lavender is also a mild natural antiseptic and the hemp is soothing to the skin.

This product can be obtained from Whole Foods or online.

We actually tried Gold Bond and it gave him enough relief to be able to sleep. The sores he had are looking better now because he didn't scratch and lick them all night.

Yes, this seemed like the best option we had on hand, and it plus the benadryl really seemed to help overnight. He's not nearly as red and irritated as he was last night.
