West Texas is great. No cops and flat desert scenery tricks you into not realizing your doing 120

I have an Escort 9500. I do keep it updated with speed camera/ trap locations. The absolute #1 reason why people who have a radar and get tickets is due to improperly mounting the detector. You need a clear line of sight ahead AND behind the detector. Mounting a $600 radar low on your windshield gives the rear detector a very low probability of detecting a signal if it's facing a headrest in the back seat. Mount it too high and the blue tint strip at the top of your windshield will affect the accuracy; dark tint on the rear window will also diminish the detectors sensitivity. As far as laser detection, mine only signals the lasers around airports. I believe the K and Ka (some Ku) are still the status quo for law enforcement. I'm happy with what I have but if I were buying, I'd talk to commercial drivers and the cops themselves. Sill only illegal in D.C. and Virginia if I remember correctly.

I own the escort 8500 and have the X and K band turned off. I use it with Waze and it seems to work reasonably well.

I have the Escort Passport Max. Mine also alerts far in advance - even over hills.

How much do you really save using a radar detector?

I mean you'll save what 3 hours of driving time on your trip by going 85 instead of 75?

I can remember when pulse radars came out. I was working near Morgan City one night. Berwick PD pulls over a speeder. I pulled up to back up. Speeder gets out with his Fuzz Buster in his hand. He points it at the BPD and says "that a Smokey you son of a bitch". He threw it over the side of the bridge into the Atchafalaya!

Best Radar Detector.....Go?

As a long-time Valentine 1 owner, it appears as if the Escort Passport Max 360 (now with directional arrows and radar source counter) and improved "laser" detection (yes, I know ...) is the best RD on the market today.

Others to be considered, aside from the V1 is the Escort Redline (only truly necessary for those that live in states where RDs are illegal). If Escort would take the detection technology from the Redline and implement radar source and directional arrows, they'd top V1 once and for all.

Ha! I don't care if people speed unless the drive careless/reckless.

My response was directed at his "go" on his title. I hate when people act like they need to tell me its time to start my response.

that's the truth. Only places in JP that shoot radar are Harahan, Kenner and Westwego JPSO too busy for that shite.

NOPD does radar in Algiers though.

How many tickets have to be written to justify putting a helicopter in the air?

fuel and maintenance only (not counting crew pay) a R44 is $190 hour, which is the cheapest there is, the more common for law enforcement Bell Jetranger costs $572 an hour to run. Though four tickets recoups that.
