You don't pack differently for international travel vs domestic travel

I don't know if this is true but I've had several people tell me not to buy upper end/expensive luggage because it's more likely to be "lost" or stolen.

man, those folks handle tens of thousands of bags each day...I would guess that they don't even realize what brand of luggage they are throwing...

yeah, that's why I said it has to be registered and logged in a system. But who checks luggage these days?

I bought a micro carry on from Walmart for like 35. I've learned how to pack two weeks of clothes in that thing. When you travel as much as I do and with a lot of international, you learn a lot including the fact that you never want to check a bag. Also there are awesome packing videos on YouTube that shows you how to compress down to that size.
All I need is that micro carry on and my laptop bag and I'm good.

Pretty soon I'll be switching to the surface pro which means I won't even needs the laptop bag.

I have a travelpro carry-on that is about five years old. That thing is indestructible, there was a 2.5 year span when my consulting firm had me on the road nearly every week. Carried on, checked at the counter, gate checked, 'inspected' by MIA baggage handlers... You name it, it held up.

I just carry on an Osprey backpack set. The big pack goes overhead and the day pack carries the stuff I use day to day/on the flight.

Screw checking bags for international flights.

I can get about 10 days of clothes with a pair of dress shoes for nice dinners. Use hotel cleaners if you need it.

If you are going on a trip with multiple stops in different cities/countries it is a major pain in the arse to travel with regular sized luggage. Learned that lesson the hard way.

Made the switch recently from Sampsonite to Delsi. Holding up well so far. Just go to Marshalls/TJ Maxx and buy something decent. Unless you travel for work a lot, there's no point in going up to the Tumi and above quality.

I got a big travel pro bag for 100 dollars. It's still going strong after 5 years with it traveling frequently.

I've been living overseas for 5 years, and done a ton of international travel in that time. We have two brands of luggage, and both are awesome.

Samsonite Reflex is great because of the quad wheel system and the hard (not cloth) shell. I'll use that one when I'm travelling without my husband and have both kids.

Briggs & Reiley are our favorite though. They're more expensive than Samsonite, but offer a lifetime guarantee. They'll repair just about anything. We had a break with one of them on one of the legs to keep it upright (which was prob due to another bag being slammed on the leg), it was repaired without issue or hassle.

You can get a Tumi, but ehhhhhh. I've never felt like we needed to spend that much on luggage. It's worth it not to cheap out though especially if you're going to be travelling a lot.

That is.....international vs. national(or local.) it is either quality luggage or not.
Depends on how often you fly if it's local travel. If you are a once in awhile flier then it's fine to get regular luggage. If you fly often then it's worth it to get something more expensive as an investment.

With international travel your bags are guaranteed to be toast if you cheap/bargain out.
