I have travelpro and it is damn near indestructible...after over 15 years of nearly weekly use, it looks like crap but is still hanging in there...

The best? Rimowa.
The most American? Filson.
For lightweight backpacking type travel: Tom Bihn, Patagonia, or Rick Steves.

I don't know if this is true but I've had several people tell me not to buy upper end/expensive luggage because it's more likely to be "lost" or stolen.

Tumi luggage has a built in tracking system, but it has to be registered and logged. Most travelers don't know USDOT requires airlines to reimburse you 100% of any lost (not delayed) luggage up to $3400 and most other countries it's higher.

So does B&R but you make it sound like it has GPS on it. It's a barcode and if it doesn't get turned over to tumi, youre not getting it back

Why international travel? I have never thought about it in that way. That is.....international vs. national(or local.) it is either quality luggage or not.
