The BBC is to increase diversity by investing £100m of its TV budget over a three year period to produce "diverse and inclusive content". Director general Tony Hall has described the move, which will apply from April 2021, as "a big leap".

The BBC has set itself a mandatory target - 20% of off-screen talent must come from under-represented groups. That includes those with a disability or from a BAME or disadvantaged socio-economic background.

There will also be three "tests" for diversity in the BBC's TV output, with programmes needing to meet two of them to qualify - diverse stories and portrayal on-screen, diverse production teams and talent and diverse-led production companies.

The announcement follows widespread Black Lives Matter protests, after the death of George Floyd while in police custody in the US. "The senseless killing of George Floyd - and what it tells us about the stain of systemic racism - has had a profound impact on all of us," said Lord Hall. "It's made us question ourselves about what more we can do to help tackle racism - and drive inclusion within our organisation and in society as a whole.

This is such a farce. None of this seems organic or happenstance. Am I the only one?

You aren't. This is too coordinated to be organic.

You need to specify BBC TV in your subject. I was expecting a different thread.

More diversity on tv just basically means a majority black shoes and less white shows.

I hate wording like that

Wouldn't black actors be cheaper and a cost savings?

The BBC has had like at least 1 minority to every 2 British actors on every show or program for years.

Even on shows like that 2/10 rated Troy show where they had a black Achilles and a black Zues.

And on shows where they pretend like middle ages Britain actually had tons of black people when everyone knows it was no joke literally 100% white people up until the mid 1900s.

State run propaganda doing work for the progressives at every turn.

History is no longer history and facts are no longer facts.

I realize that a global society means that nearly every country has become less homogeneous. Also, Britain has a long history of immigrants stemming from their colonial conquests. However, it feels a little odd that European countries would need to promote so much diversity outside of their historical ethnic groups.

They do it to undermine Conservatives and traditional English culture.

Nope. There is evidence of blacks in Roman Britain. Many of them were roman soldiers from africa.
