I'm not disagreeing that Baton Rouge has a better downtown, but it is hardly the backbreaker. Baton Rouge has probably one of the most disappointing downtowns for a city its size.

LSU puts Baton Rouge ahead of Jackson, but not by much.

Agree with all of that.

I do think Baton Rouge's downtown has come a LONGGG way and is getting better everyday. When they finish renovating the area between LSU and downtown, it will be a major lift to the area. They need to get more students to frequent downtown. I talked to the manager of Lucy's in BR and he said just the addition of Uber has been a big lift to business.

If they get a decent public transport between LSU and and downtown on the riverfront, it could be huge.

North Baton Rouge is still right there and will always spill over. That is the biggest obstacle IMO. That area is as bad as it gets.

Put MSU and Ole Miss in Jackson, and it would probably be about like Baton Rouge. Jackson is bad, but the last time I went through Montgomery it was just plain depressing, so I would say it is the worst of the three, by far.

Madison has these crazy building requirements. No tall buildings, all must be this same stucco style or whatever it is, etc.

EVERYTHING looks the same. The gas stations are nice like that too.

I lived in Jackson for 6 months. The day my leased ended, I hightailed it back to Louisiana.

My first job out of college was in Jackson. I lived there for 2 years and was miserable pretty much the entire time.

I've only driven through Montgomery, but the fact that it's in the state of Alabama leads me to believe that it's probably a shithole.

Agreed. However, this thread isn't about surrounding areas. Baton Rouge has LSU and a better downtown INSIDE city limits.

Oh, I know. Just mentioning that Jackson is so bad that the suburbs have to be so good.

Outside of the Fondren/Belhaven/Northeast Jackson area where the rich out of state kids go to private college at Millsaps and Belhaven, Jackson is like downtown Mogadishu.

I used to love Br and I'm from here, but after moving away and then back I've seen what I've been missing, but Baton Rouge is utopia compare to Montgomery.

Montgomery last, then Jackson, then BR

The Roberts own that. They have a son that was my age at Ole Miss and we had mutual friends. Nice guy.

They also opened that tapas bar in Jackson and a couple other places. Very successful restaurateur. The Amerigo's in Nashville is popping usually.

And you have tp pay a $10,000 bond per house and a $25,000 per unit for apartments to rent in Madison. There are ZERO apartments in Madison because of this. Keeps the transient population out, and keeps my property values high.

And also makes it one of the whitest cities in the South.

My in-laws moved to a water front house on the Reservoir near the Yacht Club years ago. Its so boring, but that is EXACTLY why they did it.

Sucks when we party at George St or F Jones and have a $60 cab back home

ETA:

And those numbers are outrageous

I know the mayor and city council took some shite years ago for these policies. People were calling them blatantly racist. They gave no shits and made no concessions.

Truth hurts. Some attorney years ago got into some trouble and it was publicized that his nice $750k home in Eastover sold for like $220k.

I have a colleague that lives in NE Jackson. Kids go to JA - that's their community school.
