It almost sounds to me like this was not planned at all, but he was simply driving down the road looking for a cop out of his car that he was going to shoot. He ended up in a spot with a bunch of cops by chance.

It really seems to be the only explanation for him moving his car, and he never really set an ambush. He simply creeped up on some guys that were not expecting to find someone with a rifle looking to kill them immediately.

Yes, and don't forget open carry is legal in this state so they probably weren't thinking anything of that call.

Just no. A call that a guy with a rifle is on Airline Hwy right off the interstate will always be a wtf call. Especially considering what's been going on up there the past few weeks. They just didn't know they were rolling up to a fricking suicide mission.

This is my working hypothesis.

Killer spends two years in Africa and comes back to American with an African girlfriend (the "yoga instructor"). They both come to Baton Rouge. She gets arrested in the protests. Because she is here on a visa and committed a crime, she gets deported. He shoots cops in revenge, inspired by whatever cop-killing rhetoric is around. I think it all comes down to that.

This is all a WAG, but that's my guess.

NB4 he is still a cop killing criminal

Dang. I can you see being spot on. His G/f gets arrested and he finds out she is going to be deported. His life as he knows it is about to change considerably. He wakes up that morning furious, and decides to go drive around and find the first cop he can to take his revenge out on. Then it just unfolds from there when he ended up in a spot full of cops and could not escape.

The speculation is he may have been on his way to BRPD HQ a few blocks down but saw a few police vehicles at the carwash and gas station and decided to take them out first.

This. Plus the guy had some pretty messed up writings before hand that showed he had become very angry and hateful. Not that events didn't put him over the edge but this isn't the first time he had considered or planned some sort of hate filled shooting spree

Sometimes its a shame that we are so civilized. In old england this guys head would sit on a pike until it rots. Scum like this don't deserve to be buried.

Google led me to this:

LINK

It appears that the federal benefit is $339,881 for eligible deaths occurring on or after 10/1/15. I may be reading that incorrectly, though. It appears that there is also a federal education benefit of $1,021 per month for full time attendance.

State benefits break down to:
$250k to spouse/beneficiary/estate, $25k to each dependent child for an officer killed in the line of duty.

Educational benefit for any child of an officer killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty to cover fees, tuition, books, other charges, including room and board, as long as the child meets the academic standards and complies with rules and regulations of the university. Scholarship is limited to eight semesters.

Workers' Compensation coverage gives 65% of employee's wage for spouse and children (only 32.5% for spouse without children). Two year lump sum payable to spouse upon remarriage and weekly benefits cease. Children receive benefit until 18 (or beyond if disabled) or 23 if full time students.

Health benefits vary by department.

Pension/retirement is also paid to surviving spouse/children. Spouse benefit is until death.

EBRSO pays into Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund. System provides no less than 50% and no more than 80% of member's salary to spouse for life.

For Brad, that's only about $650k. He was the primary breadwinner with 3 young kids. $650k isn't going to go very far.

In the late 1800s there was a border war between La and Ms. A few small skirmishes and 5 Mississippians were hung from trees along a roadway to warn others not to come in causing trouble. All started between a cotton farmer in Mississipi and a general store owner in La

Just some useless information

Oh, no doubt. But why did he do it that day, and in Baton Rouge? Also, there is all of his "alpha male protecting mine and what's mine" spew.

Here is all I am saying. He says on Twitter that he just got back from Africa. He posts pictures of himself with an "Afrikan yoga teacher," including one with her partially nude on a hotel room bed. It is not much of stretch to think that this was his lover, and that she was not a citizen.

Also, he was strongly anti-government, part of the sovereign movement. I could see someone like that getting pushed over the edge by immigration messing with his lady.

I will say it every time: I am not trying to humanize this guy or excuse him. I hope his anus is being slowly and painfully penetrated by sharp-toothed maggots in hell.

What I am trying to figure out is why here? Why now?

Thought I made it clear.

This is total wild arse speculation. It is a total in the blind guess. I'm just trying to figure out what makes this guy go over the edge in this place at this time.

He was radical, with radical terrorist beliefs that hated white people and even more so the police.

I still consider myself young and learning but trying to find these answers for the actions of some people is almost impossible and will drive a person insane. As rational thinking " normal" people we have have a hard time wrapping our minds around the motives of some of those that are less than stable.

You really didn't. I asked specifically if it's been confirmed that he even had a girlfriend. And one that was arrested in Baton Rouge.

I agree. But he didn't kill any cops in KC. He didn't kill any when he was in Dallas. He didn't when he was in Houston. And his level of rhetoric was consistent through those times. What made this radical hating guy choose this time, this place?

I though the words "hypothesis," "WAG," and "this is my guess" would have made it clear. Let me make it clear. The entire thing is factually and functionally a complete wild arse guess.
