this will happen more quickly than people think

it will become a moral imperative once everyone realizes the lives saved

30,000 people die on the road every year

if we could reduce that by 90%, why wouldnt we, like today?

You realize how expensive they're going to be right?

Define "reasonable price point". Cars are too expensive now just because of the amount of useless crap they throw in them and overcharge for. How much would a self-driving car cost as opposed to a normal version? 10k more? 20k?

Your vague question is vague.

dealerships and their government protected exclusionary business model

The tide of freedom will eventually wash that shite stain away and autonomous cars can catalyze that inevitable process

I think you'll likely see a ride share company make them available long before they are going to be affordable for purchase by average Americans.

It will become imperative once the government decides to restrict individual freedom of movement.

Don't want. I don't want an automatic transmission, much less an automated car.

A self-driving car in my mind is going to be a completely different thing in terms of look and design. I would expect the cabin to be like the inside of a train car with the seats facing each other and a table or something in the middle. It's going to be pretty incredible. Also, I expect the model to be that these self-driving pods will be fungible, you won't need to own one (just hail one) and they will be parked in strategic places or on the roads. They'll be networked together and with the infrastructure such that the efficiency gains will be staggering.

As to when that future exists, we're probably looking at two decades or less.

In Atlanta or Houston...it's not going to do shite for me.
