I agree with most of your original post but you're wrong on those three.

I have XM Sirius. I can hear any decade at the push of a button or just by saying a phrase:
"sirius channel 8". that gets me the 80's. MTV made the 80's. a lot of fun, I admit.

Pandora can do it for you too. Don't be stuck in one genre. Get out more.

The problem with posting a music thread on the OT is the horribly generic answers you're going to get.

shite! Thank God. I understand sarcasm very well, I just didn't read the entire thread. Sorry, but I've encountered people who think Coldplay are gods.

Really? I'm not one of those people.

Problem I see is people are reducing the 60's to psycadelic, 70's to disco and arena rock, 80's to New Wave, and 90's to grunge.

Sorry dude, I never listened to 98 degrees. I didn't listen to the RHCP, STP, Smashing Pumpkins or any of that stuff when it was popular either.

I just recognized it as good music when I did hear it, bought it and defended it here.

Not being an expert on 80's music I was trying to be fair when engaging in the discussion. I looked up the top 10 albums from each year of the 80's.
Digital Dreams 80's

I don't see near as many bad bands listed in the Digital Dreams 90's as in that 80's list.

I even left off crap like Cindi Lauper, The Replacements, Prefab Sprout, New Order.

Sorry man, that's what people remember as 80's music.

Blue's Magoos
Black Oak Arkansas
Ravi Shankar
Dave Clark 5
Yardbirds
Humble Pie

Who used to listen to KAAY out of Little Rock?

I was born in '73 so I was definitely an 80s child.
I would have to say that the '65 to '75 era was one of the best.

'80s was probably the biggest decade if you want to put it that way. So many bands. Hair and Pop Metal galore. For every decent band there were 10 shitty copy cats. Just so much crap everywhere. MTV is the root of it in a way. Cookie cutter music as fast as bands could crank it out.
No doubt there was some solid stuff to come out of that decade, but IMO, it sometimes gets overshadowed by the sheer amount of shite that went along with it.

Of course, we had a small reprieve through the '90s which itself slowly tapered off to shite.
Might just be getting older, but I'm not the only one to echo this opinion... we haven't had a great decade of music since the '90s.

One more thing... this damn far into a thread with no mention of Tool? Seriously? One of the best things to come out of the '90s. Sheesh.

I'd take the 90's because it had the best rap and country. I hate the hair metal bands of the 80's.

Hair metal and RAP were the worst of the 1980's. Country from the 40's -1975 is vastly superior to the crap since then.

Metal in the early 80's was great. I can't take the glam or hair ballad bands though.

The subject makes me wish they'd release another game based in Vice City 80's on a new gen console.
