This doesn't sound right, but what made the 80's so great also made it so horrible.
People in here seem to be comparing bands. The 80's had more innovation. The way we listened to music changed. The switch from analog to digital music started. Less creative controll by the big labels. (Until they started buying all the Indy labels). MTV was refreshing. Of course I think it ultimately did more to harm than good as things went over the top. Van Halen filmed "Jump" for something like 400 bucks plus a few bottles of Jack. Fast forward a few years, MJ spends millions on Thriller. Shows like 120 Minutes are dropped to be replaced by teeny bop TLR.
Unplugged was really cool when it started.
We were coming out of the void of the 70's created by disco. So perhaps anything sound seem better by contrast.

I'd say the 80s is the worst decade, by far, at least up to 2000. Only if you're really into punk can you make a case for the 80s.
70s rules!
70s rules!

I would argue the 80s were the worst musical decade.

Look there's a reason we're still inundated with 80's music everywhere from commercials, the grocery store, to bourbon street. More so than any other decade.
And this is despite it being the music of a relatively small generation. There were fewer teens and twenty somethings then compared to before/after. Gen x.
