It's still around and I go there for the bar and friends. Food has taken a step back imo.

Thanks. Never was much on their dinner menu but drinks and dessert seemed to be the ticket.

Overall Madison was a great place to live/work. More OB related but it was cool to see a trophy deer out of my office window at 7am and get a great gyro 5 hrs later all in walking distance.

Much more culture than Texas is hilarious. Might be the dumbest statement I've seen on here in awhile.

what culture does the city and suburbs of Texas have besides consumerism?

Madison is extremely cliqish if you like to get out and meet new people. If there are worse places for that, I've never seen it, and I've been all over hell, from coast to coast. The other negative thing about Madison is the boring bedroom community aspect of it, which is also to the extreme. They also don't like commercial buildings and will not have a building over 4 floors.

If you want a place to raise a family that's very low crime, and eats at the Mexican restaurant on Friday nights with your kid's classmates and their parents and single moms, Madison may be the place.

Eta-Your neighbors might even welcome you with a pineapple upside down cake. If you live in a subdivision on the west side of I-55.

You really didn't think that through did you? I've spent significant time on projects in many rural and suburban areas all over Texas. These few come to mind as having significant local rural/west culture balanced with commuters to the nearby cities.

Waxahachie outside Dallas.

Montgomery country North of Houston(Conroe).

South of Houston from League city to Galveston.

New Braunfels North of San Antonio/San Marcos South of Austin.

One of my best buds is from there. Funny, we met in Dallas in 99 working at the job that put me all over Texas on projects from Del Rio to Denton and Tulia to Conroe.

He was a New Braunfels Unicorn.
I've spent a lot of time hanging around that area and was his Best Man.
I've stayed in that Haunted Hotel, The Faust.
Lots of history and culture(Mexican, German, early Texas settlers) in that area besides the water park and tubing fun(not that it's a bad thing).

Station is practically a high end private school because of the neighborhoods it serves. They have the best scores in Madison and have an elite strings program.

Avenue is an awesome school as well. We live in the Mannsdale zone, and Ive posted on here before, its a great school, but the STEM focus is over the top. If your kid isn't into building robots, there isnt much for them in the form of an advanced curriculum until they get to high school and the health professional academy is available.

Thank God I am far past worrying about elementary schools. However, the one thing that does drive me crazy in Madison is the AM traffic. Most of the isssue is caused by the number of soccer moms that put one kid in a minivan to deliver them to the front door of the elementary or middle school. All because they can not fathom little Johnny/Jane "wasting" their time and having to get up early to ride a bus.

yes.. a few suburbs may have some culture. by and large, the culture of a typical Mississippi suburb is your typical Southern culture and all that goes with it. the culture of a typical Texas suburb is a mix of Texans, Southerners, Mid Westerners, West Coasters, and Yankees that drink beer, buy BMWs they can't afford, and watch tv.

no community, no shared history, and most of the people are transplants from some other state. in other words, not much culture. a few suburbs doesn't and will never change that.
