People get beat up over plastic beads and crappy desserts.

I like the parties, but parades I don't care for. Now that I have kids? Parades are stressful.

This.

And the funniest part is that they don't realize how pathetic they are.

As someone who is more entertained by the parade watchers than the parades themselves I get a kick out of watching the people on ladders.

What I don't get are the people who feel obligated to come shite on everything here on the OT. Don't like Mardi Gras? Don't go. NOLA too dangerous for your tastes? Don't visit.

Pointing out that adults on ladders are ridiculous. Valid thread. I agree they are idiots. But how did the whole post turn into Mardi Gras sucks, blah, blah, blah. I will now head out to St. Charles secure in the knowledge that all you hatin lame asses won't be there ruining my fun.

Calm down. It's a message board. People are going to post their opinions. "Don't like it?" Well, don't read it.

Look, I've had a lot of fun at Mardi Gras. I've been to countless parades in 3 different states. I've paid my dues. I can talk about it if I want to.

If you're going there just to get drunk and party, that's one thing. But if you're going out of your way to get a fricking ladder to stand on in order to catch the junk that they throw, that's pretty sad.

Ladders for kids are great. Helps them catch more, keeps them from running off in the crowd, keeps them off the street, etc.

Adults should not ever be on ladders. That's like adults sitting on Santa's lap in the mall.

I get like 3 beads or so to wear, maybe a cup to wash out and use, then I'm done trying to catch shite. Just enjoy the floats, music, booze, and family/friends instead of being a bead nazi.

I don't necessarily care about catching beads but I do enjoy watching the parade and specifically the floats. Best place to do that is up on a ladder.

If the Germans had erected a wall of ladders in Normandy like their were on N. Carrollton yesterday, the Allied invasion would have been halted at the beach.

I'm a big defender of Mardi gras but Endymion is the worst. Hate it.

I'm sure all the little kids forced to stand behind you agree.

I remember going for a doubloon that someone threw for me, that landed on the ground. It happened to be a black man that came up and used his big old tennis shoe and stomped on my doubloon. The adults with me gave him a dirty look. He flipped out a switch blade knife.T

We bring a ladder for 2.5 y/o who would not see a thing without it. We also bring a 3 step stool right next to it for the other parent to stand on. Otherwise, one parent would basically be hanging out on ground level alone. Parent on stool only helps kid catch and doesn't try to snag any far out beads. We get enough throws, just want to hang out with son and SO. Plenty of room to let people in front. I have no problem with how we do it and nobody has ever complained. Others around us usually hand up missed throws for the son. Everyone sees and has a good time.

I don't think people should have ladders, it's not fair for other people trying to watch the parade. I used to love Mardi Gras but it is real hard when people start roping off public property and protecting it like they own it. Mardi Gras should be for kids not drunk adults acting like jack asses.

Kids use ladders more than adults and you can't rope off areas anymore

That's not the worst of it. Sadly it's the norm.
