This why parades and everything that go with them are horrible.

You clearly have a lot of fun in your life seeing as you've been stuck here blowing up every mardi gras related thread all weekend.

Must suck to live somewhere so boring.

Ladders allow us to catch more good stuff than all the other people with out one.

What is this "good stuff" you speak of? Beads? Cups? Used stuffed animals? Moon pies? No thanks.

I just don't understand the allure of Mardi Gras parades -- going out into a drunken mob in an attempt to catch plastic beads just doesn't appeal to me.

That's so cute, you're sticking up for your internet buddy! I'll take being young and having fun over his vanilla existence any day.

The parades don't do it for me that much either, although I like listening to he bands. The allure of Mardi Gras to me has little to do with the parades and everything to do with the partying that comes before, during, and after the parades.

that's the main reason I go to parades...then I get out there in that atmosphere and everything changes

I stood on a ladder. I ducked from beads. They're not just used for catching shite.

It's ridiculous. The worst are groups with huge ice chests and ladders. Blocks off the whole damn block.

This was going to be my next post. MIL sets up for Bacchus on Saturday afternoon and sleeps out there so we have a good spot. You want to be in front and see at the big parades, that's what you have to do. People bitching are just too lazy to put in the effort to make it happen.

This has nothing to do with ladders

If you didn't grow up doing it as a kid, you'll likely never understand the fun of it. It looks absolutely ridiculous from the outside , but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it just as much at 30 as I did when I was 10.

The throws are much nicer than they used to be years ago though.

When I was a small child. I remember going for a doubloon that someone threw for me, that landed on the ground. It happened to be a black man that came up and used his big old tennis shoe and stomped on my doubloon. The adults with me gave him a dirty look. He flipped out a switch blade knife. This was many years ago. You would not catch me DT NOLA nowadays doing this. Unless it has improved.

This is why children's parade is where it's at.
