As I understand it, alot of bodies are in the dead zone where oxygen is scarce. It's hard to move your own body there much less drag a dead body down.

Not to mention they're basically 200lb rocks at this point

They practically feel as though they weigh 2-3 times as much when you're dealing with hypoxia.

I'm amazed at how perfectly the bodies are kept for all that time.

Check out the Radiolab episodes entitled "An Ice-Cold Case" or just read about Otzi. Pretty amazing how perfectly his body was preserved for thousands of years.

That pic is "green boots" and he is now a trail marker on the route.

There have been several campaigns to bring down bodies and trash but it is slow, hard, and life threatening work to get done.

And, every few years there are more being added to the total.

Looks pretty peaceful to me. I would rather be there than rotting in a coffin.

Why don't somebody go get em?

Because every step above the basecamp leading to the summit is agony and extreme effort with heavy gear and o2 bottles...digging a body out of ice and snow and carrying it down is physically not an option

think about this...you would be attempting that at almost the height commercial jets fly at.

I know few choppers can reach the summit, but can't they use them to get out the bodies at lower elevations?

FWIW, I like the fact that the bodies remained there. Those people died attempting something special. Also gives the mountain a better narrative.

I don't know of a bird in operation that can go up to 26,000+ ft.

Helicopters are about at their limit at the base camp elevation (15,000' +/-). Those bodies are at 20,000' +/-.

The summit is just shy of 30,000'.

Everest is also pretty much a 29,000 ft dumpster. Climbers unload crap all the way up to the top, air bottles, extra gear, etc. whatever it takes to lighten the load. No body is picking up that shite either.

While looking over images of bodies on Mount Everest those 2 years ago, I noticed that I was humming the song, "Dust In The Wind" by Kansas.

Attempts to get the deceased climbers down is highly dangerous to those who might try it.

Eurocopter AS350 B3

Per wikipedia, this choppaahh is the first to land on the summit of Everest.

Apparently there is a video out there, too. My shitty comp can't watch it, though.

They periodically put expeditions together to collect the trash. It's a losing battle - more and more people attempt the climb each year and the discarded gear just keeps increasing.

Well shite. You haven't boom roasted me yet. I need more. Because 26000 is above the "death zone", I'm assuming the pilots and crew have to operated in a pressure controlled environment wearing masks, etc. Is the bird actually outfitted for search and recovery?
