We had a drive at the end of every game so far to tie the game or take the lead. We are playing hard. We just aren't playing well enough to win games.

It's looking a lot like last year, which has me worried for the rest of the season. But it's not over yet. We started 0-4 the bounty year and came back to 4-4 and that was without Payton (though I have been questioning his coaching a lot this year since we are seeing so many of the same problems from last year).

Yeah call me optimistic or delusional or whatever, but I'm not giving up yet and neither has the team.

My take away that is while we're not a terrible team (for reasons you've pointed out), we're not a good one yet either.

The old Drew/Payton combo are 3-0 at this point in the season with 3 late game opportunities to win it. If we can play with a little consistency, get some players back, and get a few breaks our way for once we are a decent team.

Agreed. Until we can prove we can win close games (or a game) we are a bad team, but not terrible.

Whats surprising and mostly unnoticed is the huge number of new players on the 53 squad this year.

By my count we have a whopping 11 rookies making up around 20% of the team.

We have 13 players who were not here last year.

Combine the two and its around a staggering 40% new faces on the team this year.

And we wonder whats going on.

Lewis is going to make a HUGE difference on D. Browner has been getting killed and is a huge disappointment thus far.

I truly believe with him we are 3-0. Our run d has been mostly solid and Breuax, Vaccaro, and Phillips have at least been holding it together for the most part. Lewis is going to help force the QB into holding the ball a little longer.

The offense still needs work. Just isn't clicking right.

The one fear going through the back of the minds of all saints fans: "Oh no - we suck again!!!!"

Im not ready to openly declare it yet. Need a few more games. But we finish sub-500 again, and its legit.

This team doesnt have a decent enough dline to go on a run, 7-9 at best, and who wants that? Might as well go 3-13

I agree with this, but let's be honest, the defense is still too porous.

I don't see much seasonal improvement so the best hope is 6-10, with a 3-13 year a distinct possibility.

Keenan Lewis and a healthy Drew would have made a difference in 1 or 2 of these games.

Big question is how much of a hole we're in and is it too late to get out?

i'm concerned about the mentality of the team... of course if we had the same types of games but we were 3-0, it'd be a whole lot different, but it would get the Dome rocking and energy into the team and the city

but instead at 0-3, everyone will be on edge and we can implode any game now, with the Dome emptying out as the season continues

the price we pay for having a fanbase that can make us is having a fanbase that can break us

Very valid points.

I get nervous when I see the FO making moves like they did to get that TE from the Patriots.

After having the two you have currently as long as you've had them, you make a decision 3 games into the season that they aren't good enough?

Blocking has been piss poor... That assumption can be made rather quick

Hicks has regressed the past two years and was benched (and did a little whinning about it).

Richardson was clearly outplaying him.

Edit:
Read that wrong.

We have been looking for a third TE. It wasn't all of a sudden. What happened with Hicks just helped facilitate it.

It seems like for what we gave up for him, we are expecting him to start?

Maybe I am reading it wrong.
