Tend to agree. I see this offseason as a complete change in philosophy. I think they are making good decisions by trading skill guys for offensive lineman. The junior thing is just bad luck. The one area of concern i have, is we did nothing to improve our defensive line. I think that will keep us from being a good defense.

Look what dallas d with the unknown. We upgraded our offense to a run first pass second type offense. Which takes pressure off defense by controlling clock . Patriots win super bowls because they controlling situations with clock management better than anyone. Seattle does the same. Jimmy was talented but offense was getting stale. We took a step back but it will pay off for the defense. If not Grayson comes in for drew near the end we see what we have with him. Drew could end up like the Brett favre situation and look how that turn out for the packers. The best case scenario playoffs, the worst case we have decision to make to make a culture change.

yeah pretty sure that murder was already on the books before the ray rice situation, and we saw what happened with the pats and hernandez

Hernandez's contract was signed before a lot of these issues arose, and if I recall correctly, Galette's deal was in jeopardy due to a clause that was mentioned in regards to him keeping the contract and some of the guaranteed money. Now, whether that clause (if it exists) would include unknown behavior prior to signing the contract that came to light is another story.

Not too far off in your summation. It seems the drafting approach has been very amateurish and we're paying the price.

Unfortunately, the New Orleans Saints traditionally are a very losing pro sports franchise.

We've experienced some fantastic recent success for which we will all be forever grateful.

BUT, the OP is correct. The Saints don't appear to be building on that success. In fact, IMHO, the Saints are in danger of falling back to their traditional losing ways.

I'm being honest here, there are times when I think that some of our best informed Saints fans who post on here could do as well as the Saints front office when it comes to building the roster.

i agree, and we don't even get to see the players as much as the coaches do. InB4 'loomis is a genius and I don't know anthing.

Hard to be worse than last year. If you can't make the playoffs with Brees at QB they need to either trade him to get whatever value they can(assuming he'll allow it) or let him retire because the situation obviously isn't going to get better anytime soon. It all hinges on this season. If we do just as bad or worse, it's time to seriously start thinking about offloading Brees if he still wants to play. Not a knock on him but using the Patriots strategy of getting as much as you can for a vet and we're not going to win with him anymore anyway so get what you can.

A couple days into camp, i'm certainly not ready to throw in the towel. Saints are in a weak division, and hopefully they capitalize.

But where I used to think Loomis and the scouting/player personnel staff were the gems of the NFL, I now wonder if they're not simply retarded. A few years ago, the Saints picked up this weird habit of acquiring players who either still had injuries or had a serious injury the prior year. Kind of started with Greg Romeus; last year it was Byrd, and half of last year's draft class had previous knee injuries.

Then, Saints simply don't draft well. We all know that 7th round picks are a crap shoot anyway, but when the Saints selected Tavon Rooks in the 7th last year, I went to look him up and he literally didn't have a draft profile to be found online. And then he was never to be heard from again.

Then there are the contractual decisions: The Saints FO fought tooth and nail to keep Jimmy Graham's pay as low as possible. And then wound up trading him away the next year and are currently eating part of his salary.

And of course, the Junior Galette fiasco. Supposedly, the Saints' giving Galette a big contract two years early caused some contempt in the lockerroom. And I don't really blame them. The Saints made Brees hold out after outplaying his original contract; they essentially testified against Jimmy Graham; they've forced paycuts to several vets over the last few years....and yet they gave that knucklehead a big contract two years before they had to....and a year before they decided to pay Cam Jordan.

To be fair, a lot of their late drafted players had almost "no name". Recently, it was trying to find too many hidden gems that had vast potential as opposed to players with high floors/low ceilings.

Payton's early success went to his head and he has approached the draft in an asinine fashion for the last few years. As was pointed out, it seems you get taken off the board if you haven't had reconstructive surgery leading up to the draft. Arrogance,,,,pure and simple.
