You have to get Drew a defense though. Wasting drew without a D

I really hope you're not this naive

Are you obnoxious in real life too?
We draft a 23 year old QB with a third round pick and yet they don't trust him to be the backup and apparently looking at other potential options. If you think they have confidence in him then you are ignorant.

We didn't trade away our most valuable asset just for offensive line help.
Right, we got offensive line help, one of the best centers in the NFL, and a first round pick.
We then turned around and selected another offensive lineman in the first round with our highest pick, and addressed defense with pick #31.
I'd consider that a pretty heavy investment in the offensive line

Also trading away Kenny Stills and Ben Grubbs allowed us to draft PJ Williams and Tyler Davison.
Ben Grubbs was getting cut as a salary cap casualty. He was underwhelming for the price. Kenny Stills was traded away for off the field issues.
And yes, we invested heavily in defense, because our defense was terrible and the whole Junior situation.
We also invested heavily in the offensive line. Kind of important for a QB.
quote:
understand. It was a great trade on our part, but my point was they used it to shore up the defense.
While ignoring that we also received one of the top centers in the NFL and ignoring that we also used our first pick on the offensive line?

Grayson pick was so terrible. Only a complete homer disagrees. We have a career backup though guys!!!
...meaningful players like Terron Armstead have never been drafted in round 3

They(and Grayson for that matter) knew he was a project with good potential. He's barely started his second offseason and you think they don't trust him based on what evidence? Because they're scouting QBs(which they do every year?)
Mccown is veteran eyes and another mentor,he can be pushed back to #3 or let go when we see how things go in the summer/fall.
You and others are making snap judgements based on flimsy evidence.
And please show me what you mean by obnoxious because I'd love to see it.

Pocket presence, deep ball accuracy, great anticipation. Made to be under center in this offense. His flaws are fixable. Watch Gruden's QB Camp with him. Youtube I don't need him to win 16 games his first season. I just need him to not look like Danny Wuerffel with his helmet turned around.

every single one of us questioned it and flipped out. But the reality is that if they like a guy enough to draft him, who are we to say otherwise? Yes we have holes we need filled, but if they feel the value is there to get said QB and potentially dangle him long term (ala Kolb; 2nd round pick + DRC) you gotta. Or if he's to be the heir.
Hell, we could be dumbasses like NE and Mallett (3rd round 2011) and end up coming back to grab another Garoppolo (2nd round 2014).
Gotta have due diligence, what if we're interviewing some QB and find out he's worth taking at 12. All it takes is another team to think the same and we can raise the price.

He was also learning an entirely new and complex offense
He did fine in preseason

I'm not saying he's going to be a good or bad pick, but he's a qb...it's not even close to fair to judge him yet. He hasn't even started his 2nd year.

If he's not an above average heir to Brees, it was a terrible pick.
Due diligence, trade, blah blah blah.
...a fifth and sixth rounder played significant roles for us this past season on a 7-9 team.
Who knows what PJ, Tull, and a third round pick that actually had a chance to see the field could have contributed.

Me and TB1127/Drake20 have had a similar mindset from the beginning.
If you are rebuilding a team to make 1 final push you don't take project/fliers in a pivotal round at a position of strength.
How much easier would the 2016 draft be had we drafted a WR, OG, DE, DT, etc in the 3rd a year ago vs a RS 3rd string QB that led to an additional roster cut.
BPA/Need positions
Stefon Diggs WR
John Miller OG
Eli Harold DE/OLB
Danielle Hunter DE
Paul Dawson OLB
Tre Jackson OG
Kwon Alexander OLB
All would have been welcomed picks over Grayson who now can only redeem himself if he becomes Steve Young.

I really really like the Arkansas QB - he reminds me the most of Brees.

I didn't want to draft a qb either, but we did. I'm just stating our current situation.
Posted on 4/7/16 at 12:16 am to GMoney2600
Not attacking you. It is just a very dumb situation to be in. The second we extend/resign Drew the organization inadvertently admits it flushed a quality draft pick.
1 pick to some teams mean nothing but to us a team stripped of two 2nd rounders, a team that adds a latter year 1st to a current year 2nd rounder for a RB, league leaders in dead cap, drafters in the 2nd of SJB, Charles Brown etc picks matter a lot.

It's not ridiculous. It was a wasted pick unless he becomes a good starter for us. Will never happen and was never gonna happen. Pick made no sense. Still makes no sense.
