Htran, bonethug, can we realistically afford him?

Without making a move I think he'll just fit if at the minimum this year (top 51 rule in effect so he replaces a guy making half a mil and would be at most 700k ish if for the minimum).

Otherwise we'd have to do something to make room.

But we have to make a move anyway to sign the rookies so they must be confident the Brees deal will happen.

Also you don't need to sign a player after agreeing to terms (though you risk losing the player), so we can have a handshake deal now and wait to make space to make it official.

Edit:
Just saw this is a multipage thread and has probably been answered.

You can use the 2.25 from Browner now and prorate it.

Not true. When you use a June 1st cut it splits the prorated money so you pay for this year's portion while the remaining portion (no matter the years) gets put on next year's cap.

The $2.25 is the remaining portion of the prorated money that will get pushed to next year but that doesn't clear until June 1st. This is so teams can't abuse the system.

Didn't realize he was only 308 pounds. We'll still need a run stopping NT but there aren't any worthy of being the 12th pick.
Exactly. I like Reed, and Billings, and Robinson, and even Butler, just not at #12.

Treadwell wouldn't be a bad pick then.
I"m eager to see what he runs at his pro-day on Monday. If it's over 4.6, I'd pass on him at #12.

I like Shaq Lawson at #12 if he's there. If not, Darron Lee maybe?

cant see them targeting another WR in the first. Its time to think about defense.

I love Treadwell's game but we had our fun with Peat last year and trading up for Cooks 2 years ago. I will flip the frick out if we pick a WR, as good as he might be,

2 years ago we wasted important picks on SJB, and Khari Fortt. We gave up a 3rd in that draft to pick Cooks.

Then last year we added Peat in the first and wasted a pick on Grayson in the 3rd. The rest were defensive picks, we need to continue to add bodies on that side of the ball. There isnt enough young talent or difference makers there. Its a no brainer.

God we need to find some on the D-side with a attitude!

Sometimes I think we stay too clear of those who are not 100% boy scouts.

Come on, who would you rather play for, the New England Patriots or the New Orleans Saints?

Wait, never mind.

sure its not the other way around?

He comes here he's a starter, in NE he's more than likely a rotational player.

Starter on a short term deal > rotational guy on short term deal.

He balls out for 1-2 years, he gets a big pay day

Because talent evaluation is a strong suit of that organization, not a glaring weakness.

If Fairley comes in very low, with an incentive-laden deal, fine.

There's reasons teams aren't banging on his door.

He's only been a rotational player for the last few years.

He will be a rotational player here, if he signs.

with how bad our DL is? Hicks got 27.5% of the snaps in NE and Fairley got 36.4% of the snaps in STL last year

Davison got 49.6%, Jenkins got 50.0%, and Williams got 52.2% for us.

Fairley:
Couldn't get 2011
2012: 47.8%
2013: 64.9%
2014: 27.5%

I don't think its unreasonable to think he gets close to 50% here while he'd get closer to 30% in NE.

Wouldn't have gotten entire $1.6 (only about $1.1 benefit). However, now that we matched him (for some reason), we probably created more cap costs.
