Dude, seriously how dare you fricking question the decision process of some athletes out there who have to protect their own interest cause nobody else is doing it. You think Nicks can go be the CEO of a fortune 500 company next year if he pulls a lecharles bentley? They got to get theirs while they can. He's played 4 years on a shitty rookie contract, has been the best guard in the league for an unquestioned 2 years. Helped us win a superbowl and you question his desire to "win" because he also has to maximize the opportunity to cash in? We have played 46 super bowls, saints only have 1 lombardi. I know its kind of weird but this place is not the only place to win at. Goodwin left for more money elsewhere, he beat us in the playoffs yo. Plenty of places Nicks can win at, but to sit here and question him in the least is fricking ignorant and idiotic beyond all fricking words of the english language.

Chad, enjoy this...

....you're spot on.

We've got plenty in return for his rookie contract. The guy deserves and needs to get paid. This is the main money making years in his life.

He is, by making statements like that.

"I don't really care if some of the money gets taken from some of my teammates, or it gets taken from the pool we will use to sign FAs, or it hurts our cap. If they want me, they'll find the money for me."

You've got to be a retarded donkey to have that mentality. It's one thing for a player to walk for 61 million over 60 million but this is not of the scenario at all. Nicks needs to maximize his opportunity and to even ask him for a discount even worth a frick is selfish of the organization.

I'm really not. Nobody really is saying anything except:

"You don't know the contract details, so you can't say anything about them."

"They should get paid whatever they want."

All monies get taken from other teammates in one manner or another since the land before time.

where else you going to pull the money from? Nicks is a FA.

Nicks isn't a geologists, a capologists, or a GM. He's a fricking guard. He gets paid to play, not give out the last number for pi.

Inarguable.

No not at all, people have argued with you on the fact that structure is an important factor in determining a contracts worth in regards to you saying it doesn't.

People have argued with you saying that Nicks wanting to be paid like a top guard that his talent says he is, is not just selfishness. People have argued with you on plenty of things, but those are things you are ignoring

You are just one of those guys that goes around saying "I can't believe players getting paid millions to play a damn game!" All the while ignoring that the NFL is a billion dollar industry.

Well, let's just go ahead and pay Drew and Nicks whatever they want. We can win Superbowls with Drew, Nicks, and scrubs.

Listen closely, it's a balancing act and you have to choose your battles wisely. It's unfolding right in front of your fricking count colored eyes if you would just pay attention.

Nicks is gone man, he'll get a big deal somewhere else. Never said we should try to keep him, we don't have the money. Relax.

I don't think anyone said this. I think most people realize Nicks will be gone because his price will be too high for us. I don't know how anyone can blame the man. He's a great football player, and football players tend to not have very long careers. Of course he wants to make the most money he can. If someone offered you a significant increase in pay for your job, I'm sure you'd take it. And no one would question your loyalty for it. Get off of your high horse. The dude does this to make money. The NFL makes billions of dollars a year, so of course the elite players are going to want to get paid a lot.

A couple of things are apparent with your argument:

1. You are not sold on the idea that Drew Brees is an elite, once in a lifetime-type qb to play for the Saints, and deserves a salary as such.
2. You believe that a pro team can exist with a socialist attitude - even the superstars on the team - all for the greater good of the salary cap.

And you're not budging on either one.

Good luck, especially with #2. Good luck convincing Brees' agent Condon on #2.

Watch how fast this team will tumble when #9 is no longer wearing the black and gold. I might actually be able to get a seat at face value again.

Find me an NFL team with a player whose salary ate up at least 1/6 of its overall salary structure, which has ever won a Superbowl. You're right, the NFL isn't a socialist system, but there's being compensated and then there's demanding so much that you can't be competitive because there are 52 other guys who also need to get paid.

I give up, been trying to find numbers and can't seem to find them anywhere, but if you look at the salary cap over the years, it has grown since it was first put into place. I'm pretty sure that John Elway and Troy Aikman's salaries were up there in the percentage. I'm just having a hard time finding an actual salary amount for those two.
