Are times that tough for poor Drew? I understand inflation and the bad times currently. I guess 15 million a year doesn't go a long way with three kids anymore.

Maybe he has high aspirations for after football and wants to set up his kids and family for life.

THe guys is elite in his profession, has singlehandedly revived a terrible organization, and wants to get paid what he deserves.

I would agree with you. The thing is I've heard varying figures of the money he's been offered, and I'm not sure what is factual and what's misinformation (and you can bet there's misinformation floating around).

At the expense of the team, and his future winning percentage?

Screw that. I'll be fine franchising him year after year, and beyond that, if someone wants to offer some outrageous package for him, sign Matt Flynn and trade him. Flynn will come much cheaper, Payton can make him into a star, and he's much younger than Brees. I don't have time or patience for two faced athletes.

Yes, let's trade our Superbowl winning, top 3 elite qb for one who has played 2 games in the NFL. Sounds great.

He'll get signed, and I'm betting it won't be for 23 a year. 17-18 is the Saints starting point and 23 is his. I assume they will meet in the middle.

God this thread and idea sucks

Drew Brees should get what he wants. If it means we have to cut 52 other players and send him out on the field by himself because he wanted 50 million a year, then I'd be okay with that.

Although I haven't actually heard him say anything about it; no my opinion of him wouldn't change at all.

My God this. How can anyone who calls himself a Saints fan think otherwise? Drew Brees IS the Saints. Period.

Because I'm a Saints fan before I'm a Drew Brees fan. Signing Drew Brees to a somewhat economical contract is better for the Saints than "giving him whatever he wants".

which is a perfectly valid stance, I just wish people would admit they are just looking out for their own rooting interests rather than portray Drew Brees as greedy or in some other negative light

This is just 2 sides to a negotiation trying to do what's best for themselves.

No he's not.

I love him to death, and I want him to retire a Saint, but I was a fan before and I'll be a fan after he's gone.

Brees is a great guy, but he's not perfect. I support Drew getting a fair deal, but I don't support him asking for an average of 23 over the first three years because it goes against what he stated before about wanting a cap/team friendly contract.

so if he had not stated that previously then you would be fine with that reported request of 23?

No. I just pointed that out because it just shows that Brees isn't perfect. Yes, he can be selfish. It does appear that's what I said. Sorry for that.

I'm for the team first.

Get over yourself.
Brees is NOT the Saints.
I'm not sure he's 1/5th of the Saints either.

Lotta dumb up in this thread.

"Pay brees whatever he wants!" "frick the team!"

If y'all are serious about that, then there is no hope.

If they offered him a $15 million dollar deal that he turned down, well that would have a different effect on people's opinion than if he turned down a $21 million deal right?

Im sure it would to some, and to others it wouldn't matter.

People going full retard in this thread...but i agree, you don't just pay Brees whatever he wants. He should get what is fair for an elite QB

the thought of matt flynn developing under sean paytons guidance and system does make me wonder.

obviously, i want drew for another 5 years. just very interesting to think about. flynn would need colston though.

I don't post shite like this but I overheard it from such a significant source that I can't ignore it.

Brittany Brees is determined not to raise her children in the city of New Orleans. She is disgusted by the crime and recent uptrend in violence. There are apparently family dynamics in play with this negotiation not going as smoothly as we thought it would.
