09, 11, and 13 we did have very good rushing years. I wasn't saying anything to that ilk. Just proving a point that the other ol boy has no idea what he's talking about.

Yo vette
@nick_underhill: Loomis said if they extend Brees it's not as much about the cap as it is they want him to be the QB for the foreseeable future.

Well, Loomis is always straight up.

You think he'd admit it might be a little about the cap?

He'll be the QB. Nobody's touching that contact.

We don't need to extend Brees to sign our draft picks or FAs.

Wouldn't hurt though

The only place I've heard that is here. Everyone else is saying it is gonna be a done deal, primarily for FA/draft picks.

What does not extending him do to our 2016/2017 cap?

The only place you've heard what?

You can literally look at the numbers, grab a calculator, and see how we can sign our 2016 picks and have available cap space with the cap at 155. Hell, we're under right now before Browner and Jordan's restructure.

And I'm pretty confident it gets done too as it is best for both parties.

He would be a free agent in 2017....

Extending him would likely open a lot of space and we could afford any free agent (non-QB) in the NFL plus some. You'd be spreading this year's base salary out over the length of the extension

So if we don't extend him how much is his hit in 2016?

The same as it is right now. ~$30 million.

2015 his cap hit was 23.8.

You're right in that, if we don't do anything, his 2016 cap hit will be 30.

Extending him seems like a no-brainer.

We could do what's needed without messing w drew's deal but it's better to extend him, get more immediate cap and keep drew a saint

This year's crop of free agents have middling players. That's the kind you need, but if you're overpaying for them it's not worth it.

How much cap space do we need this year? 4 moves alone can free up about 15mil to give us about 18mil in projected cap space. That's without touching brees' contract.

Restructure Jordan, cut colston (or 2mil pay cut), June 1 browner, and extend Unger to clear about 3-4mil.

18mil is enough to sign a guard and wr, fill with depth guys, and draft picks.

I mean Ingram has missed about 25% of games played over the last 5 years.

He's good for an injury and about 650 yards per season..

If you ask me that's garbage.
