Bad deals happen. Galette's dead money and eating contract was unexpected and a killer

so what do you want to do? Not extend Brees?

Because that seems like your solution when Brees and Brady finished the season at 36 and 38 years of age and still put up top 5 numbers.

You want to be like the Broncos with their cap space? We were the Broncos in 2012. Tons of free agents, but we kept most of our players and lost others. Replaced them with seemingly viable solutions (Nicks->Grubbs, Hawthorne, Lofton, etc) and it failed. They'll have the same issue and a new one without a HOF QB (regardless if he is a shell or not) at the helm.

You want us to be like the Patriots? They have 900k in cap space with 2-3 players they can cut to make room.

Mayo: 11.4mil cap hit (7.0mil saved, 4.4mil dead)
Cannon/Vollmer: 5mil cap hit (approx); 3-3.5mil save, 1-1.5mil dead

they also have a few free agents they want to keep. Not everyone can have Brady's contract currently and 2-3 years ago it looked damning how stuck they were with him considering how piss poor he was playing before they reloaded him with receivers and OLinemen.

Yes, you're right. The Saints are in excellent shape. Like a bad dream, the dead money will go away.

Me and every single person that writes about the NFL or is a former NFL executive or hosts programs about the NFL is wrong.

Now, off to the Rant with you so you can spread more of your football knowledge.

As I've said, the only choice is to extend Brews.

I wasn't clear with that?

You can't even sign your draft class if you don't do that.

My point was that it is not a good thing and only postpones the day of reckoning.

Am I the only person that listens to other NFL programming besides WWL?

Agreed. As was Byrd, Browner, and Spiller way under-performing their contract.

Byrd really underperformed due to health and lack of scheme IMO. Idea of his signing wasn't horrible. I was on talib wagon that year.

Talib looked like Browner in the first half of the SB.

nope, not clear at all. Sounds more like incessant complaining about extending him.

Sure you can.

Restructure Cam Jordan like the contract was intended to be able to do. It saves you 6-7mil this year and you're able to sign the class you wanted.

That is without touching other bad/reducible contracts on our roster (i.e. Colston, Browner, and Morstead).

Okay. Postpones the day of reckoning, as in? Not being able to sign free agents? Not being able to improve? Because after this year (part 2 of JG's dead money 12mil of the 22mil) we are pretty much clean of dead space going into 2017.

Lets say we cut Browner (june 1) and Colston, 1.3mil in dead space for 2017. And lets say Brees doesn't get extended.

That means in 2017, we'd have 85mil to spend.

2017 free agents (notable):
Brees
Unger
Vaccaro
Armstead
Jenkins
Snead

Brees, Unger, and Armstead probably comebine for 35mil in average salary alone. Vaccaro, Jenkins, and Snead won't even combine for 15mil. But lets say they do, that means we'd have 17 more spots to fill and 35mil. Dreschler (long snapper) being one, which costs less than a million so 16 more spots, 34mil. Lets say 5 from the 2016 draft take that and roughly 8mil of cap space.

11 spots, 26mil. Say another 5 from the 2017 draft and another 8mil, 6 spots 16mil.

That is not even backloading contracts, which you know will occur or any contracts we add this year (cheap or expensive).

My complaint is that we have to extend Drew (due to bad decisions, not that his contract was one). Repeating, we are lucky to have him.

They will extend Drew. I'll bookmark this thread and come back to it.

Vette, we extending drew cause he's got 1 yr remaining not just cause of the 30 cap hit.

I think the 30m cap hit is the main reason. I don't see any other option, although that was a pretty good write up by Htran90.

TBH, I haven't looked at cap stuff beyond 2016, but we're in a tough spot for now.

We fine. We gotta be smart for 1 more year but we fine long term. We'd want to extend drew regardless and every contract pushes a bit more dead monies to end

Well you were right about Junya, so I'll sleep better tonight.

I'll even call Pat tomorrow and tell him he's FOS.

You think the main reason the new orleans saints are extending the contract of the greatest player ever to wear the uniform, a future hall of famer, superbowl winner, record breaker, elite quarterback, face of the franchise and friend of the city is because of his cap hit?

You're an idiot. And a complainer.

It took you this long to resort to calling names?

You're slipping.

It's not because he went to Bama. Hell I honestly would love if somehow the Saints snagged Henry. But The Saints have one of the worst rush offenses EVERY single year.

I apologize, he has 6-100 yard games in 5 years. They have 10 RB's that do that every year.

If the Saints have one of the worst rush offenses every single year, wouldn't that be a problem with play calling and schemes? You do realize that running the ball depends more on the offensive line than the running back in the NFL, right? Besides, we aren't some team that needs to lead the league in rushing. We still have one of the best offenses year in and year out.

Hates Ingram. Likes Henry.

Yeah, that's smart.

I couldnt care less if he doesn't break 100, he doesn't get 20 carries a game to hit that number consistently. If he can hit 4.5ypc on 200 carries a year and catches 50 passes for 500 yards I'm happy as hell
