It's not just Collins but LSU players in general that SP steers away from that pisses me off.

So until we have better guard play we should beat the topic to death. Just to remind us.

Brilliant. Keep it near the top for when Payton and Loomis read TD. Flawless logic

Let's just keep making annoying and negative threads as a reminder...of the idiots that come from the Rant

I have heard this same thing from numerous sources. i also heard that he would have taken less money to play with the Saints and that all they needed to do was call and say they wanted to sign him and it was done.

Loomis needs to go

frick off

It's not like I just woke up this morning and thought, you know what, I'm gonna start a La'el Collins thread just because we suck and the Saints hate LSU players, yada, yada...

If you would have read my post you will see why it had some relevance...If you don't like it, then just ignore it and move on...Your arse isn't going to bring anything remotely logical to any topic anyway, so carry on

The thing that pisses me off the most about this shite is that it brings out these idiots who seriously believe this made up narrative that the Saints intentionally avoid LSU players. That is literally the stupidest thing I've ever heard. There are hundreds of colleges in this country and only 53 roster spots. LSU fans (and let's be clear here, I AM ONE) want to act like every player that comes out is all-world. Im sure they have honest grades for these guys, and if the chips fell right they would take them.

That makes sense.
Except that all UDFA's are paid the same amount.

Speaking of which, where are all of the Grubbs posts? So far he looks like the guard the team thought they were going to get when they signed him.

I'm not sure why I'm entering this shitastic thread because no matter what anyone says here, it won't change a thing but here goes. There's numerous articles where Collins said he signed with the Cowboys because Jerry Jones made him feel like he was welcomed. I have no doubt either that Jones used his close relationship with Les to get information on La'el. Jones also sent investigators to Baton Rouge to gather as much information as they could on the situation. Jones wanted him more, it's just that simple. I'll dig around to piece them altogether.

This is probably true.

It is not an indictment of the Saints.

This is not the same thing as hearing that the Saints did not even reach out to La'el. It is not the same thing as what was said in the OP. It does not in any way support as a source what was said in the OP. Your conclusion does not follow and is nonsensical. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Collins’ phone rang at 11 p.m. earlier this week.

Jones was on the other end.

“We had a long conversation and man, that was the first time I really felt like somebody was seeing me for who I am,” Collins said. “Somebody understood the guy that went back to school my senior year because I wanted to be something special.”

Buffalo coach Rex Ryan had flown to Baton Rouge to eat with Collins. A couple of his former teammates at LSU returned to Louisiana to lobby to get him to join them with the Miami Dolphins. Collins’ agent said his client didn’t intend to take any visits.

But Jones’ conversation changed all that. He arrived in Dallas on Wednesday with his mother, who raised her son and worked long shifts as a security guard at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino and Hotel while the boy’s father, Theotis, spent more than a decade in prison for his involvement in the death of a man in a bar fight.

The agents narrow the list to a handful of teams, and then Collins cuts it down even more. He wants to be close to home, and he doesn’t want to be anywhere cold.

This is a great read on the behind the scenes of the entire process

quote:

The Cowboys were so convincing that Collins passed on plans to visit Miami, Atlanta and elsewhere before making a decision, instead making this "tour'' a very short one. Credit goes here to the owner, unique in so many ways, a negative lightning rod in so many others, but indisputably a winning negotiator. Jones being both the owner and GM streamlined this process, and the Cowboys' organizational chart kept people in their proper lanes. That includes coaches in constant contact with Les Miles, the LSU coach and former Dallas staffer who I'm told raves about Collins as a person, and includes law-enforcement connections with "boots on the ground'' in Baton Rouge in the last week to monitor the situation.

Jerry Jones & the Cowboys put in work, plain & simple.

Yes it is an indictment on the organization. There's a bigger picture to look at here. One, Payton stated before the draft that the area behind the center was prime real estate. Yes, Unger was a huge upgrade at center but what in the hell was Payton thinking going thinking it was ok to go into the season with Evans who is now in his 3rd season of a decline & an unproven Tim Lelito?

It's not like Collins didn't play a position of need. The problem I have is not that the Saints didn't sign him but throughout every article you read, the Saints are listed nowhere as one of the teams who reached out to him.

Secondly, Payton has a history of holding on to hope with declining, aging players. It's happening now with Evans & Colston & it happened before with Vilma & Will Smith. His loyalty is admirable but in doing so he hurts the franchise. He waits until it's painfully obvious a player has nothing left to move on instead of paying attention to the early signs of a declining player.
