Zion's bubble injury kept secret from team(coaches)?

Something I think needs more attention. Zion detests burst play, but shows up to the bubble out of shape and strains a hamstring. The Pelicans didn't disclose this injury. And while it wasn't mentioned in the article, it's because Zion's parents told them not to.

I don't know when the coaching staff eventually found out but multiple people around the team at that time told me it was kept even from them! Is this not insanity?

So it sounds like this will be a dirty laundry day with lots of nuggets slipping out. I don't think Shamit would post this if he didn't have an assistant on the team telling him this, but it still seems too crazy to be true.

I guess I'm confused. Is he saying they didn't disclose because no one in the org knew, or some folks knew but didn't disclose and didn't even let coaches know? And if the latter, who actually did know?

It sounds like Zion's "personal situation" in the bubble was an injury that Zion's camp told the Pel's at a fairly high level to not disclose.

Is it because they didn't want him to be played in bursts when he came back? Or, that they didn't want messaging about him being injury prone?

I want to read the article, but I'm not paying for a NOLA subscription

Not in th earticle, but his team didn't want the heat of an injury and the ensuing fat shaming.

David Griffin’s 2½-year run in New Orleans has been turbulent. He’s fired 2 head coaches, and he’s failed to form a solid relationship with his most important player.

On the Pelicans boss, who’s yet to speak it into existence. LINK
Christian Clark's reporting on how shitty Griffin's tenure here has been, and how many in the organization have turned on him.

Griffin basically has no relationship with Zion and they don't really speak.

Zion showed up fat from the day 1 of summer league after we drafted him, and turned on the organization with how cautious they were over his knee injury. Showed up ever fatter to the bubble and we hid another injury at the request of his family.

Now the guy who's been fat for his entire NBA career, won't show up to any of the team's offseason workouts together, ghosted BI and Vinson in Phoenix, was in Vegas for Summer league, but didn't meet with his teammates and has no relationship with the front office.

I've said it before but it almost impossible for these past two years to have gone any worse. A fraud POBO. A franchise player who's been fat or injured for his entire time here, his psycho parents, and somehow less leadership ability than Anthony Davis. At least AD showed up to team workouts. shite is ridiculous.

Shamit is very connected and doesn't post for attention. I think it's safe to take him at his word

The Pels have obviously botched it, but Zion isn't off the hook either.

Yes he's young, only 20 or 21 and just completed year 2. But if he and his family want to call the shots like some of the elite of the elite do, then you need to do shite like show up to work in shape and be a leader. Instead he's showed up out of shape, and while other team members are bonding and working out together, he's distancing himself from them.

Point being, there's blame to go around on both sides here.

I really do not love what we have seen from Zion off the court in the past two years. At all.

He's been in random HS school gyms all over the country hyping up teenagers all offseason, though.

There's something kind of strange and child like about how he hasn't seemed to have let the HS experience go. What multimillionaire 20 year with world at his fingertips spends all their time watching 15 year olds try to dunk? This seems to come through in his parents being his nutritionists, trainers, and coaches. He's a man-child.

Instead of firing Griffin, they let him pick a 3rd coach in 3 years.

Garbage arse franchise & ownership

i agree with lester in that ownership SHOULD have fired Griff. It was outlined in my master offseason plan.
