More on this from Ken Berger

quote:

Warriors assistant Alvin Gentry, a respected offensive coach, is among the names on the Bulls' radar. But sources say Gentry -- and anyone else not named Hoiberg -- will have to pass a difficult litmus test that includes not only being the right fit, but also dynamic enough to justify letting Thibodeau out of his deal.

"What is Tom going to do, be angry?" another front office source said. "What's different about that?"

Front office sources believe that if Hoiberg could be had, the Bulls would jump at the opportunity to then leverage the other head coaching openings -- New Orleans, Denver and Orlando, at the moment -- to extract draft-pick compensation for Thibodeau. But one thing the Bulls won't do, according to league sources, is let Thibodeau out of his contract for compensation without knowing they have a replacement who excites them.

"That ain't happening," one of the people said.

The point is, most people wrestling with how and when the Thibodeau divorce with the Bulls happens are getting the variables backwards. First comes the replacement, then the compensation talks for the embattled -- and in demand -- Thibodeau.

LINK

Specifically Pelicans related:

quote:

As for New Orleans, which fired Monty Williams this week with an eye toward the possibility that Thibodeau will be available, the outcome depends on who is making the decision. If it is GM Dell Demps' call, league sources question whether Demps would want to embark on another potentially contentious coach-GM relationship. Williams is highly regarded, defensive-minded and headstrong -- much like Thibodeau.

If the decision rests with executive VP Mickey Loomis, brought over from the Saints by owner Tom Benson, it adds an element of unpredictability to the equation. If former Pistons executive Joe Dumars assumes a prominent decision-making role with the Pelicans after advising the team for the past few months, sources say Michigan State coach Tom Izzo would be at the top of the list -- though Izzo has consistently rebuffed NBA overtures and is believed to be unlikely to leave East Lansing.

I think the best thing for the Bulls/Thibs is that they arrange some kind of buyout where they get out of most of the money in those last two years in exchange for just parting ways.

But I doubt he wants to do that. I think he'll just wait them out and make them fire him and pay him or he'll stay the coach.

Yeah, I'm sure Thibs is going to be real thrilled about knowing that they are actively looking for his replacement and they will then hold him hostage for a trade if they find one instead of just letting him go. That is some backasswards shite.

And the NOLA stuff is pure speculation. That tells me they aren't getting a peep out of the FO.

Agreed, but Dumars leading to Izzo is so much better than Dumars leading to Avery

I really think the bulls FO is more at fault in this rift than thibs.

I hope somethings causes shite like this to stop. "Trading" coaches is stupid.

When did Joe Dumars start "advising" the team? I only remember rumors that Benson would bring him in to replace Dell, never remember hearing that he was doing anything with the organization.

Tom Izzo would be very interesting, but I don't think he'll leave Michigan State

There's enough smoke with Dumars to say at the very least Loomis bounces ideas off him from time to time. I know there are a lot of reasons to fear advice from Dumars, but if Loomis is going to be in the position he's in, he needs someone with NBA executive experience to consult with.

They have no leverage in a trade. They cannot make him agree to go to a team he does not want to.

That's the funniest thing I've seen on here in a while. He may be available without compensation because the jackass is about to lose his job at Arkansas State!

Whaaaaa?! That's interesting. I doubt Izzo would ever leave college basketball though.

Jeff Duncan ?@JeffDuncan_
Looks like #Pelicans have been given permission to talk with UTEP's Tim Floyd about coaching vacancy.

There were a few random tweets yesterday about Stephen Silas being at the facility and having dinner with Mickey Loomis. Suddenly he's in the BSS coach bracket. I believe he replaced Adrian Griffin, who isn't in there anymore.

This is the biggest hire in the history of this franchise. If they fired Monty to replace him with the coaching version of Austin Rivers..................RAGE!
