The thing I realized, if I am being honest-- is that every dumb take someone has over there or the new guy has on this board --- I had them earlier in my life before I was educated by people much smarter than me

But the difference is I was open to the education. They come through with stuff that is just plain incorrect and don't open themselves up to being taught

You come at me correct - with a question or seeking knowledge-- and I am the nicest guy in the world. You know how many THOUSANDS of CBA questions I have answered over the years? Yes, thousands.

I get all pissy when people come at me trying to prove they are smarter than the guy all Pelicans fans know, as if they are gonna take some invisible crown from me if they prove me wrong.

You guys do that...less. Save for an idiot like Shameless Pel or someone like that. I really am a nice guy; just come correct

Woah. Thank you for the shout out. Fortunately, I don't even have to defend myself. Your constant bi-polar antics on any given day do that for me.

Potential Asik Trade Targets.

Criteria: Needs to be on a worse/longer contract than Asik and/or the team has cap space problems where stretching Asik is better than keeping their current player.

Wesley Matthews
Allen Crabbe
Evan Turner
DeMarre Carroll
Brandon Knight

As mentioned above, things need to line up right for Matthews to be available, and you'd have to think Portland would see if Brooklyn wanted Crabbe for free. With his 15% trade kicker they might not. But he bottom 3 on the list you could probably get right now.

Evan Turner is kind of like a poor man's Tyreke, but he's worked in Erman's defense before and he was one of the guys that almost fit last offseason's desire of Gentry to get a play making SF. I think he might be the Asik trade that is the most realistic, the question is, would stretching Asik or riding him out be better than turning him into Turner? Basically 2 years at $12 for Asik vs 3 years at $17.5 for Turner.

You couldn't play both Turner and Hill at the same time much, but a 2nd unit of

Crawford
Moore
Turner
Cunningham
Cousins

seems like the kind of 2nd unit that would extend or create leads which isn't what most bench units are able to do. Shift Holiday to SG and use the MLE on Collision and all of a sudden you're a pretty solid team. Maybe they fall apart in the playoffs when the guards and wings aren't good enough, but a deep team like that could be a top 4 seed in the regular season.

Jesus. frick that. Turner is not good and is getting ridiculously overpaid.

I would rather just ride Asik out for another year where he might be more tradeable. The only I could say is that Turner at least has SOME use, unlike Asik that is useless.

I'm 99.99999999% sure the answer is no, but can a player "waive" a Trade Kicker?

In other words is if he actually wanted to go to a team but couldn't because of the kicker, waive that so he could go.

I know the answer is no but I thought I would ask for discussion purposes.

I got an article coming out with all the possibilities and I think the list is even longer than that. Assets can be added from either side, but bottom line, yes I think there is a solid chance if Pels wanna do it

Good, because if Turner is our best option I think we'll be melting in July.

I just found the answer to my own question. Yes, it appears players can waive their trade kicker, but not to a hard capped team that would otherwise put them over the tax apron.

Is that right?

Not that I think Crabbe or anyone would waive their kicker to come here. Just a thought.

If Crabbe thought he'd start here and he won't in Portland that might be worth waiving a trade kicker. It's not like he loses money, he just doesn't get paid extra for being traded but he'd in theory get traded to a better situation. A trade kicker is not exactly a no trade clause, but it does give a player some ability to control where he is traded to by being able to waive it.

I just saw that the Lakers are actively trying to move Jordan Clarkson.

Don't think we would be players for him just pointing it out.

You are getting downvoted for this, but it seriously takes about 30 seconds to confirm something like that with a google search.

I've never thought my ability to search google was out of the ordinary, how simple is asking a question about the thing you want to know about? But you'd really be surprised at how much of a daunting task using Google seems to be for some people. Pose a dumb question to google and you might have to actually go to multiple pages and read until you find what you want. Pose a dumb question on social media and it's like you just hired a task rabbit to do the research for you.

Crewz, honest question and mean no disrespect when I ask but when you write these articles are the possibilities things you are seeing or contemplating in your own words or are they coming from any sources you have or information you have potentially gathered around the league?

I'm glad we signed Moore to that contract last year. When we look at some of the numbers we have on our books (asik, hill, and even ajinca), it's a move that could help us by either him playing or him being a piece to get rid of a larger contractual issue without hurting the team too much.

No NBA team wants Asik. Dallas would never trade Matthew's for Asik. Matthews is still an NBA caliber player; Asik is not. If Dallas needs cap space why not release Norwitzi.

They wouldn't be trading Matthews for Asik, they'd be trading a $5.5 million stretch for a $3.5 million stretch. So whether Asik is an NBA caliber player is completely irrelevant to the decision making process.

If you think the Mavs are just going to cut their franchise player that has brought them a title and 2 trips to the Finals, that's the thing that will never happen. They might ask Dirk to take a pay cut, but they wouldn't ask him to before they've dumped other guys including Matthews and they have a max or near max player lined up.

There aren't many teams that are as cold blooded as the Patriots. If the Spurs go after CP3 they probably should dump Tony Parker rather than useful players like Danny Green, but I find it hard to believe they'd just dump Parker. Maybe if they can find the right situation but I think the way the Spurs operate they'd dump Green and figure they can find the next Danny Green like they always do before they dishonor one of the long time cornerstones of their success.

Asik wouldn't be a savings to Dallas simply because of the offset provision. A team will sign Matthews to at least the veteran minimum. So that $2M difference will disappear.

Dallas has flexibility because it's the team option regarding Dirk. Last Miami gave Wade his exist papers despite leading the Heat to multiple championships. Teams noted what happened to the Lakers with Kobe' s farewell contract.

As far as Asik, hopefully he stays in Turkey and organize the resistance political party. AS DT says country first

You don't understand the offset provision. But you are welcome to research it and try again...
