These are some interesting additions but I'm glad to see some shakeup and that Benson is willing to pay to get better coaches around Gentry even though I didn't think Pack was bad.

MM had some comments that became even more interesting with the news of infomercial motivational speaker Phil Weber leaving.
Trading Weber for a "more authentic" rah rah guy seems like a good idea with Cousins.

Mitchell played in the league. He has been a coach, a scout, in media. Basically done everything. There is value in that. But you don't want him having a big say in X/O's. But he keeps it real with players and according to Alvin, that's what Boogie likes.

Hopefully most the X/O's stuff is handled by Finch and Erman, they can use a few rah rah guys to keep Cousins and Davis happy.

Sounds like a good move.

I was told Mitchell's main role would be a (and this is their wording, so whatever it means) "conduit between players and coaches"
I took it to mean a guy who understands it from all angles. He knows the struggles of the players and the coaches. He gets things from the media side. He is basically a wise old sage that will help with dozens of things behind the scenes that us fans never really see
He will have input in basketball things but the X's and O's will be Erman and Fitch, with Gentry basically dictating how he wants things to go and those guys making it happen

understatement. Mitchell was one of the worst head coaches in the league in Toronto and Minnesota.
By all accounts a good guy, so maybe this lesser role will be a better fit

Well that seems like a smart way to run things with everyone knowing their roles and sticking to that.

That's how it's been every year. Nothing has changed
Again, it all comes down to Pels getting higher IQ guys on the court. Trust me, our coaches tell them the right things to do. The issues have been that the guys can't stay on the court, and even when they do, they aren't very smart
Look at all the good teams on the NBA. Some have amazing top end talent, some don't. Some have great coaches, some don't. The ONE common denominator is that every good team has high IQ guys atop their roster

On our current roster, who would you classify as high iq guys?
Posted on 5/26/17 at 9:54 am to WB504
High? None
Hill isn't an idiot. Cousins is smart in the film room but when the bullets start flying and he has to make a decision in a split second, he makes far too many mistakes. AD is on his way up, but still average.
They need a guy who has the ball in his hand a lot that is smart and if that same guy was a great team defender because of his IQ, that would be icing on the cake.

Yeah, I think it was Lowe awhile back talking about just how terrible a HC he is.
As a conduit to the players, that seems like a good role for him.

so he's the new robert pack

I thought Pack left to pursue a head coaching job in the G league

He did. Hence him being the new Robert Pack

Would you classify Pondexter in the high iq category? I realize he's basically done, just curious where he fell in that category. When he came back to New Orleans he made a big difference that year and I was wondering if his IQ was the main reason.

He would be the highest on the team foe sure

Wake me when something more exciting happens. whatever it is.

You might as well sleep until the draft then. Until draft day trades happen, probably involving other teams besides the Pels, there won't be much to talk about.
