I kindly disagree. Yes, obviously a bigger city, but New Orleans and the people have a much greater affinity for the Ms Gulf Coast than Mobile. Also seeing how well the Shuckers have done, and the money the casinos have pumped into them, it would be a natural fit. I know I am biased, but many of the DL cities are not flashy spots, meaning they are in towns and places where there is nothing else, they are that town/cities very own. With the amount of marketing places like the Beau Rivage do already in New Orleans it is only a natural fit.

And to whoever said Jackson, just no. There is a reason the the Braves are in Pearl. Also the Coliseum in Jackson is an absolute dump, that the state and city have neglected for decades. It is slowly becoming on the same level as the Cow Palace for me.

1. I would prefer an in-state team in Bossier City
2. If they decide to go the Mississippi route then it needs to be Bioloxi. Like others have said its got the proximity to NOLA and sponsorship opportunities.
3. If they decide on Jackson they need to play in pearl or madison, but I don't think there is a venue that is appropriate unless they play in Madison Central High School's gym ( ). I have always wanted Jackson or Madison to build an arena or convention center out on the reservoir. It is ashame because that area has such potential but Jackson is run by ppl that would make Nagin look good and Madison won't do anything that might bring in undesirables and I can't blame them. Ppl think NOLA or BR are bad Jackson is a whole different level of trash and stupidity.

The Shreveport/Bossier Mavericks coach mentioned the possibility of them becoming an NBA D league team a couple of months back. They are back to back ABA champions I believe.

All of MS is basically unclaimed territory but they seem to lean to NOLA-based teams. Wouldn't Jackson, MS make a lot of sense here as far as expanding reach?

Put it in North LA and convert them from being Mavericks fans

I would be cool with the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks being a DLeague team, affiliating with the Pels, and rebranding with a LA name.

Mobile has already had a d-league team. They actually won the league in their only season I believe.

Attendance was terrible.

The Civic Center is closing, so a team would have to play at the Mitchell Center. Fwiw, Mobile is a piss poor sports town. Fans will show for an "event" but that's about it.

No thank you. I would prefer the Gulf Coast fan base over Southern Arkansas or East Texas.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast has always been invested heavily in NOLA, whether it be the Saints, now the Pelicans, or even LSU. Putting a team there makes the best sense to grow our ticket base, and slowly creep into Mobile and Pensacola, where the Saints dominate. That would be a better utilization of in place personnel, and it would make the most sense from a ticket package deal: Saints, Pels, INSERT NBADL TEAM HERE ticket packages.

I would think Mobile or Pensacola would be a better fit. Biloxi is close, almost too close. Though the Austin Spurs are close as well.

Mobile just seems like a good choice to pull in the coastal area to the Pelicans.

Mobile/Biloxi would be good spots, possibly somewhere in the Florida panhandle. It would expand our fanbase as well.

That is sort of the point. If you can put an NBADL team there and turn it into 1000 STHs and a handful of 10-20 game packages while developing talent, then that is a win. Putting a team in Mobile will not get you that, no matter how you attempt to market it.

Lafayette would be my pick if they were to put the team in Louisiana.

1. They have a great facility (cajundome)
2. There's over half a million people in the Lafayette-Acadiana area
3. Travel is easy getting there with I-10 & I-49
4. The IceGators hockey team has good support from the community
5. Two hours from N.O. makes it close enough to support the main team

I like the Biloxi-Gulfport area but, being less than a hour from N.O. seems too close

Put it in Birmingham. Large city that will never get a real team and is starved for pro sports. Take the opportunity away from the Hawks.

To be fair, doesn't Mobile trying stake it's claim as America's Oldest Mardi Gras make it an enemy city?

This is a huge if. No way having a d league team in any city creates 1000 STHs. If anything, it would be competing with the Pelicans for that area.

The humor I found was in the affinity for Biloxi moreso than a love for Mobile. If you want to argue for D League attendance, I can go along with Biloxi > Mobile because of the Navy/Air Force presence, but the cross-over marketing bump or fans taking road trips to D league games are flimsy arguments to me.

Well it is currently undergoing renovations and looks like it will be pretty nice for a D-league/SBC arena once it is finished. LINK
