But does Orlando have a reason for dealing Fournier? I would argue that Dallas has a better reason to trade Wesley Matthews than Orlando has to trade Fournier.
The Mavs are targeting a point guard this offseason (as evidenced by the fact that they want Jrue) and need to shed salary to sign Teague, Lowry, Hill or Rose to pair with Dennis Smith. This could be our opportunity to get a favorable deal from a team that is desperately trying to compete. Trading Asik for Wesley Mathews would be a slam dunk. Not only do you get a starter this season. But you also get cap flexibility next summer.

The reason would be new GM and Fournier wasn't that good, but you're right, he may not be available. I'd also take Matthews, although I wouldn't trade a 1st for him.

If the choice was Beverly or Fournier I think I have to go with Fournier. The team has enough perimeter defenders but not enough perimeter scoring, shooting and play making.
Really? I know Beverly isn't dynamic on offense but he a career 37.5% 3-point shooter and makes $6 mil of the next 3 years.

I'm hoping Jrue walks in. They present him with a good but not moronic offer. Dell then tells Jrue if you walk without signing we are going to have to look at other options. Best case scenario. Firm and fair. Which means lol prob not happening.

I would not be happy if we did. I think this would be a trade than could be done without picks.

Beverly has one of the best contracts in the NBA imo

I can't wait for the day Asik is not on this roster

I'd give him 23 million max.

Then he wouldn't re-sign with you
What would be your next course of action after you offer Jrue, and then he walks? That is the harder part. Saying you would draw the line at some number is easy. But then what?

I also feel like Future Flexibility is an undefinable thing viewed as magical like Draft Picks. Because they're undefined and can be anything people start filling that information void with outliers and best case scenarios that make your present defined choices look terrible by comparison.
I don't think we ever get a shot at Butler/George/Hayward/Wall in trade or FA. If you look at guys already on their 2nd contracts who a strong Pels team with cap space might appeal to in a few years, the list is not that great and a good many of them are guys we're talking about trading for now like Bledsoe, so resigning Jrue doesn't really stop you from going after them. In fact other than tax issues adding them to Jrue is better than signing Collison and waiting 2 years for them.
Klay Thompson (would the Pels really be his best option?)
Harrison Barnes
Kemba Walker
Eric Bledsoe
Bradley Beal
Evan Fournier
Khris Middleton
Is that list really who we're waiting for to turn this team into a contender? Other than Klay none of those guys seem good enough to be part of a Big 3.

I would argue that the theory behind passing on Holiday and replacing him w/ a cheaper, lesser option isn't about creating space to wait for a star to decide to come to NO.
It's about being able to fill out the roster with more competent players. If, as you postulate, there aren't a ton of studs coming down the pipe, then placing many bets on lesser guys blossoming into good players around Davis/Cousins seems like a reasonable (perhaps not the best) strategy.
That said, I'm fine with Holiday coming back. He's a good player, they need to make the playoffs/seem legitimate, and they have hamstrung themselves w/r/t cap space. I do think Holiday will be moveable, barring more injuries or a max deal.

Besides, playing the star game takes careful planning over years. Morey is always ready and able to pull the trigger. Ainge too. Those aren't accidents.
Demps/Pels have displayed none of the foresight to think that far ahead.

To me, this whole thing hinges less on Jrue and more on his brother, from a cap perspective. IF they can convince him to take half the MLE it would also the capability to get another competent body to increase depth.
Odds are very unlikely that this is the case though.

Riiiight. Cause this Pels team doesn't have any star players. They didn't trade for Cousins just a few months ago.
This fan base can get so over the top sometimes.

The Holiday brothers didn't team up to give anyone a deal, they did it to increase their bargaining power. What Justin needs to do is live up to the contract he gets. I only looked at guys on their 2nd contracts, maybe there's a 3rd contract CP3 to Houston style opportunity on the horizon and Moore and Justin could be our Beverly and Lou Williams if they keep improving.

for frick's sake
ATL is clearly talking about adding a 3rd star and i am clearly responding to him in that context.
but, hey, great addition to the team building conversation
